Government reports state that over 800 people have been injured, with nine still missing.
The cyclone has caused extensive damage, affecting more than 470,000 people, with over 35,000 displaced.
Combined with Tropical Cyclone Fytia’s impact, which hit on 31 January, the total affected by both cyclones is over 680,000.
UN Steps In
Fortunately, Cyclone Gezani is expected to slowly weaken in the coming days.
Aerial assessments in Madagascar suggest that around $49 million is urgently needed to assist 382,000 people in the next two and a half months.
Upon the Government’s request, UN agencies have sent additional teams for coordination. The Southern African Development Community and the European Union also sent teams on Monday.
The UN and its partners expressed gratitude to donors and Member States for their solidarity with the people of Madagascar, providing essential services such as food, water, sanitation, healthcare, protection, nutrition, and shelter.
Medical Evacuations From Gaza
Since Monday, 55 patients and 72 companions have been evacuated from Gaza, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners. Most evacuations occurred at the Rafah crossing, with a quarter through Kerem Shalom.
Since the Rafah crossing reopened this month, nearly 260 patients have been evacuated through both routes. Yet, 18,500 people still need treatment unavailable in Gaza.
While WHO advocates for reopening the medical referral route to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, their priority is scaling up local health services and rehabilitating damaged facilities to reduce evacuation needs.
Food and Agriculture Assistance
Over the past four months, more than 1,800 metric tonnes of animal feed and over 2,300 veterinary kits have been distributed to Gaza livestock holders, reports the UN’s Food and Agriculture agency (FAO).
The Gaza war has severely damaged agricultural infrastructure, with livestock survival rates dropping to 33% for goats and 20% for sheep, and only 37% of cropland accessible for cultivation from October 2023 to November 2025.
The UN aid coordination office OCHA stresses the importance of increased humanitarian supplies and equipment entry and unhindered operations to meet Gaza’s needs.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres mourned the death of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a significant figure in the US civil rights movement and a global advocate for human rights, equality, and justice, who passed away on Tuesday at 84.
“Reverend Jackson lent his powerful voice to the UN’s efforts against racism, apartheid, and for human rights,” said Stéphane Dujarric, the Secretary-General’s Spokesman, to reporters in New York.
The Secretary-General conveyed his deepest condolences to his family, friends, the US Government, and its people.
