Europe Moves Toward a Multi-Speed Future

At the Munich Security Conference, the U.S. adopted a gentler approach, though Europe still feels cautious.

In Brussels, during a Eurogroup meeting of finance ministers, the informal E6 grouping, consisting of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and Poland, is gaining attention. These leading European economies are collaborating closely, sparking discussions about the EU possibly heading towards a multi-speed structure, a concept not everyone supports.

Additionally, Brussels now has a new regional government after 613 days without a fully operational executive.

Host Zoya Sheftalovich talks with Nick Vinocur, POLITICO’s chief foreign affairs correspondent.

Looks like Europe is finally realizing that ‘together’ doesn’t always mean ‘at the same speed’—I mean, we’ve got a new government after nearly two years of waiting, so why rush? 🚦💼

Oh great, a multi-speed Europe! Just what we needed—a race where everyone’s chosen a different pace. 🥳 At this rate, we’ll be arriving at unity in about 613 days… again.

Ah, the EU’s new multi-speed future sounds like a lovely game of “who can drive the slowest,” while Brussels finally finds its feet after a lengthy nap. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to hop on this chaotic express train? 🚂💨

Oh great, a multi-speed Europe, just what we needed—because who doesn’t love a good traffic jam on the way to unity? 🚦 At this rate, we might as well add a “slow lane” for those still waiting for their regional governments to get off the couch! 😂

  14. Oh great, Europe’s off to a multi-speed race while the rest of us are still figuring out how to start the engine. Guess we’ll just watch from the sidelines with our cups of lukewarm coffee. ☕️🚦

So, Europe’s finally decided it’s not a race but a leisurely stroll, eh? 🤔 Multi-speed future? More like a slow train to nowhere, but hey, at least they’ve got a new regional gov after a year and a half—cheers to that! 🍻
