Europe’s Trump Whisperer Doesn’t Buy US Cuddly Pivot

His remarks followed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s speech in Munich, which referenced Make America Great Again themes by emphasizing the shared heritage and Christian values between Europe and America, while also affirming European countries as U.S. allies.

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, a Trump ally, also emphasized in an interview with POLITICO: “The Americans are not leaving.”

This was a stark difference from the hostility towards Europe displayed last year by U.S. Vice President JD Vance during his Munich appearance.

However, Stubb noted that Rubio’s remarks on America shifting conventional defense responsibilities to Europe while concentrating on the Western Hemisphere and Asia are not that different from Vance’s stance.

“I think we lowered the temperature in the transatlantic relationship,” Stubb said, mentioning his roughly half-hour discussion with Rubio post-speech, and added: “We respect countries’ sovereign choices.”

Stubb highlighted that Rubio’s comments demonstrated a clear prioritization for Washington: “No. 1 is the Western Hemisphere, No. 2 is the Indo-Pacific, and then No. 3 is Europe.”

  1. Oh, brilliant! Who knew the order of priorities would come down to the world’s dinner menu? 🍽️ Europe just barely made it to the kids’ table while the U.S. serves up a nice dish of “we’re still here, sort of.” 😂

  2. Just what we needed, another transatlantic love letter wrapped in ‘shared values’—who knew we were so high on the priority list? 🤔 #ThirdFiddle #CheersToFriendship

So, we’re just third on the list now, are we? Cheers to being the last pick at the transatlantic buffet! 😂

  4. Oh, marvelous! Nothing says “we’re in this together” like being third on the priority list. Just what we needed—another American with a list! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—an American telling us our place in the global hierarchy. Perhaps next time they’ll send us a postcard to remind us we’re still their “allies.” 😂✈️

Oh, lovely, just what we needed—another American telling us how to prioritize our own backyard while they focus on their “Western Hemisphere.” 🇺🇸💁‍♂️ It’s as if they think Europe’s just a charming pit stop on their world tour!

Just what we needed, a U.S. Secretary of State reminding us that we’re still on the back burner! 🙄 At this rate, Europe might as well start selling “World’s Second Priority” mugs for the next summit.

Sounds like Europe’s got a real VIP pass to the back of the line, eh? 🥳 Who knew being third in priority was the new “top of the pops”?

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed – a reminder that Europe is basically a second-hand priority for our transatlantic pals. 🇪🇺✈️ It’s like being the runner-up in a beauty pageant, but with more suits and fewer tiaras. 😂

Clearly, Europe is just thrilled to be third on the U.S. priority list—it’s like being the last pick for a pub quiz team, innit? 🍻 But hey, at least we’re not on the naughty step anymore! 😂

Oh, fab! Just what we needed – a ranking system for our loyalties. Europe comes in third, right after the Western Hemisphere and, what was it, the Indo-Pacific? Cheers for the clarity, mate! 🥴
