EU Pledges Strong Response to New Trump Tariffs Over Greenland

“The European Union is committed to firmly defending international law within its member states,” Costa stated. “We are coordinating a unified response from the EU member states on this matter.”

Trump announced new tariffs on his Truth Social platform, citing recent military deployments to Greenland by targeted countries as the reason, while a NATO troop presence in Nuuk, Greenland was reported as part of a mission.

“The U.S. is open to negotiation with Denmark or the involved countries,” Trump stated, asserting the U.S.’s intention to acquire Greenland. A 10 percent tariff will rise to 25 percent on June 1, staying in place until an agreement is made for the purchase, he announced.

According to three anonymous European diplomats, a special ambassadors’ meeting to discuss the issue has not been arranged yet.

Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and their advisers are in Paraguay for a Mercosur deal signing, with EU leaders reaching out to European capitals, say two officials. The Mercosur pact, taking over 25 years to finalize, is seen as a key to diversifying trade amid Trump’s anti-commerce stance.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson remarked that European nations “will not succumb to blackmail.” He emphasized this is an EU-wide issue beyond the currently affected countries, mentioning dialogues with other EU nations, Norway, and the UK for a united response.

Oh great, more tariffs! Just what we needed to spice up our breakfast discussions over croissants and coffee. 😂 Who knew Greenland was the new hot property in the diplomatic real estate market? 🏰

  2. So, the EU’s big plan is to “coordinate” a response while busy signing deals in Paraguay? Brilliant strategy, lads! 😂 #DiplomaticDilemma

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a bit of tariff tango to remind us how charmingly complicated geopolitics can be. I guess the EU will just have to whip out the ol’ “we’re not scared of a bit of blackmail” card while desperately looking for an exit strategy. 😂

Just when you thought international diplomacy was dull, here comes Trump with his ‘buy Greenland’ sale pitch – I half-expect a clearance rack of tariffs next! 😂✈️

  5. Looks like Trump’s found a new way to spice up international relations—nothing like a bit of tariff drama to keep the EU on its toes. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next he’ll try negotiating over a pint at the pub? 🍻

Oh great, just what we needed – more tariffs to spice up our morning coffee! 🍵 Let’s see if Trump’s “negotiation” skills can outshine a soggy biscuit. 😂

So, the EU’s “strong response” sounds a bit like a kid saying they won’t play with you anymore after you took their favorite toy, eh? 😂 Tariffs and negotiations over Greenland – I’m sure that’s exactly what they meant by “unifying Europe.”

Looks like the EU is ready to defend its turf with all the zeal of a cat who’s just discovered a sunbeam. 🤷‍♂️ But hey, at least they’re busy coordinating a response while the rest of us are just trying to figure out how to avoid those tariffs like they’re a dodgy taxi fare! 🚖💸

  9. Looks like the EU is gearing up for a robust response to those “brilliant” tariffs on Greenland—because nothing says diplomacy like a game of trade chicken. 🤦‍♂️ Hopefully, they can negotiate without sending a postcard from Paraguay! 📨

Looks like the EU’s really flexing its muscles over those tariffs, eh? Nothing says “strong response” quite like a few diplomatic meetings while being halfway around the world signing a trade deal. 🤷‍♂️💼

Seems like the EU’s response to Trump’s latest tantrum will be as swift as a glacier’s melt. Who knew Greenland was the new hot spot for international diplomacy? 😏🌍

Classic case of “you can’t buy class”—who knew a real estate mogul could turn geopolitics into a reality show? 🇩🇰💰 Meanwhile, the EU’s best response seems to be a synchronized shrug. 😂

Oh, fantastic! Nothing screams “serious diplomacy” quite like an EU meeting scheduled between Mercosur deal signings and a cheeky Trump tariff announcement—who knew international relations came with a side of slapstick? 😂

Looks like the EU’s ready to whip out the big guns on this one—maybe a sternly worded letter or two? 😂 Because nothing says “We’re serious” quite like diplomatic dialogue while trying to figure out how to deal with a schoolyard bully.
