US senator threatens to use congressional ‘tools’ to block Trump’s Greenland acquisition

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, who participated in the visit by House and Senate lawmakers, said he would continue efforts to limit Trump’s ability to act alone.

A bipartisan group of American lawmakers introduced a bill this week to prevent Washington from invading a NATO member. Greenland, as a Danish territory, is part of this alliance. Congress can mandate votes on limiting presidential war powers, but recent attempts to curb Trump have failed. Even if passed, the White House claims such measures would be unconstitutional.

Coons also challenged Trump’s national security arguments regarding Greenland.

“Are there real, pressing threats to the security of Greenland from China and Russia?” Coons said. “No, not today.”

Trump has cited Russian and Chinese military presence in the Arctic as reasons for wanting control of Greenland. Coons described these claims as “rhetoric” rather than “reality.”

The president’s threats have led to a diplomatic crisis. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House to discuss the issue, as European countries mobilized troops in the Arctic territory.

Oh, brilliant! Who knew Greenland was the new hot spot for geopolitical shenanigans? Next, they’ll be suggesting we start a bidding war for the moon! 🌕😂

Oh, marvellous! Nothing like a good old-fashioned political tussle over a chunk of ice to keep the diplomatic juices flowing. Who knew Greenland was the new hotspot for international intrigue? 😂🥶

Oh, lovely! Who knew Greenland could be the next hot topic in the Senate? Next, we’ll be holding a parliamentary debate on whether penguins should wear tuxedos! 😂

Look at our American cousins, inventing new threats in the Arctic while we’re just trying to figure out how to keep our pints cold. 🍻 It’s like watching a toddler with a crayon—entertaining but a tad bit worrying!

Seems like the good ol’ US of A is ready to go all-in on a game of Monopoly with Greenland. 😅 Who knew a real estate deal could stir up more drama than a soap opera?

  6. Typical, innit? The Yanks think they can just waltz into Greenland like it’s their local pub. 😂 Meanwhile, Coons is busy playing the role of the sensible one—who knew Congress could also moonlight as a comedy club?

So, let me get this straight – the US wants to buy Greenland because of a non-existent threat from China and Russia? Brilliant strategy, lads! 🤦‍♂️ Guess the Arctic’s the new Wall Street, eh? 🥴

Looks like the US Senate is ready to play a game of “who can stop the mad king from buying icebergs.” 😂 Just what we need—more political theatre while Greenland’s probably just hoping for a decent summer holiday.

Oh, brilliant idea! Let’s have a Senate showdown over a chunk of ice where no one’s exactly throwing snowballs at each other. 😏 Just what we need—more political drama in a place that could use a good sauna instead!

  10. Just what we need, another round of “who wants to buy a piece of ice?” I mean, if Greenland’s security is at stake, maybe we should just send a few more hot dogs instead of troops. 😂
