Paris – Didier Klethi, the Director-General for Finance of the European Parliament, stated before the Paris Court of Appeal that “the Parliament is the victim of a system where certain assistants to FN (Front National, now RN) MEPs were effectively working for the party’s interests.”

Throughout the hearing on Tuesday, Marine Le Pen centered her defense on what she claimed was a failure by the European Parliament’s administration to fulfill its “warning role” concerning the controversial contracts.

“We had no sense that we had committed any wrongdoing,” she asserted.

Defense attorneys have raised concerns over the EP administration’s lack of oversight and the complexity of its regulations.

Didier Klethi countered, “We cannot hide behind a lack of clarity. This argument has been reiterated many times, and the Court of Justice of the European Union has consistently ruled that the rules are sufficiently clear.” (15 January 2026)
