Netherlands Withdraws from US Caribbean Drug Missions amid Venezuela Tensions

Brekelmans stated, “We have collaborated with the Americans on counter-narcotics for many years, but our approach differs. We aim to arrest and prosecute those responsible for drug smuggling, not by shooting ships.”

The Dutch newspaper Trouw first reported the decision.

This decision deviates from previous practices.

For years, the Netherlands, overseeing six Caribbean islands, worked closely with the U.S. and other regional partners, including the Joint Interagency Task Force South. Dutch defense and coast guard coordinated with U.S. counterparts for surveillance, interdiction, arrests, and extraditions.

Brekelmans noted that the change comes with the method adopted by the Trump administration.

“Outside our territorial waters, we observe that the Americans have resumed a national approach,” he said. “The U.S. is conducting its operations independently, without our participation.”

Oh great, just what we need – the Dutch giving the Americans a lesson in subtler approaches. Maybe next they’ll suggest we build windmills instead of warships! 😏🌬️

Typical Dutch, right? While the Yanks are out there playing pirate, we’re just here with our windmills, hoping for a peaceful prosecution – because who needs drama when you’ve got a good court system? 😂

So, the Dutch have decided that chasing after drug smugglers is better done with a cup of coffee than with a gun? Classic European logic! ☕️😂

Looks like the Dutch have decided that playing cowboy with drug traffickers isn’t their style—who knew arresting was a thing? 😂 Just when you think everyone’s on the same page, the Netherlands pulls the ol’ ‘not our circus, not our monkeys’ routine!

Looks like the Dutch have decided to swap their maritime sniper rifles for a nice cup of herbal tea—who needs action when you can just send a strongly worded letter, right? 😂

Oh, so now the Dutch are all about the law and order, eh? Guess they’ve traded their wooden shoes for some fancy legal briefs—who needs to shoot ships when you can sue ’em instead? 😂

Looks like the Dutch have decided that catching drug smugglers should be done with a bit more finesse than a cowboy shootout. Who knew diplomacy could be so, uh, “sophisticated”? 😂✌️

  9. Looks like the Dutch have decided that catching bad guys is better done with a cup of coffee than with a cannon. Who knew law enforcement could be so civilized? 😂

Looks like the Dutch have decided that a little diplomacy beats playing cowboy on the high seas. Who knew prosecuting bad guys instead of blasting them was such a radical concept? 😂💼

Typical Dutch, always looking for the legal route while our friends across the pond are ready to play cowboy. 🎩🚢 Guess we’ll just stick to serving stroopwafels instead of boarding ships, eh? 😂

Looks like the Dutch have decided to trade in the guns for handcuffs – who needs bullets when you can just point and say, “Not my circus, not my monkeys!” 🐒💼

Seems like the Dutch have decided that diplomacy beats gunboats—who knew playing nice was still a thing? 🤔 Maybe next they’ll start serving stroopwafels instead of arrest warrants! 🍪🚢

Looks like the Dutch have decided to swap their wooden shoes for a more diplomatic dance, eh? Who knew that arresting criminals could be so much more civilized than just playing naval battles with the Yanks? 😂🇳🇱

Oh, splendid! The Dutch have decided that instead of playing cowboys with the Yanks, they’ll just sit back and watch the show. Perfectly logical… because who needs a hand in catching the bad guys when you can sip your coffee on a terrace instead? ☕️🇳🇱
