France to Halt Imports of South American Products with Banned Substances

Paris – An order will soon be issued by Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard to halt the import of products that contain residues of substances banned in Europe, including mancozeb, glufosinate, thiophanate-methyl, and carbendazim, as announced by government head Sébastien Lecornu on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the order is set to be published on Tuesday. However, France must secure approval from the European Commission within 10 days. The minister is optimistic about obtaining this approval during her visit to Brussels on Wednesday.

The ban will apply to avocados, mangoes, guavas, citrus fruits, grapes, and apples from South America and other regions, as well as melons, cherries, strawberries, and potatoes, as outlined by Lecornu.

French farmers, who are currently grappling with the contagious nodular dermatitis outbreak, are also rallying against the free trade agreement with Mercosur countries, which is scheduled for January 12. (January 4, 2026)

Looks like the French are finally catching onto the fact that “organic” doesn’t mean “I got it from a dodgy market.” 🍏🥑 Keep those dodgy fruits out, oui oui!

So, let me get this straight: we’re banning South American fruits for having substances we don’t like while our own farmers are dealing with their own mess—bravo, France! 🍏✨ Just what we needed, more imported fresh air in our markets! 😂

Looks like France is taking the whole “bananas are the only thing allowed” approach a bit too seriously—who needs avocados when you’ve got pâté, right? 🍷🥖 A real winner for our fruit bowls!

Funny how France is suddenly the world’s health police, halting imports like they’re on a mission to save our taste buds. 🍏 Just imagine the drama in the avocado aisle! 😂

Oh great, just what we need—another excuse to stop enjoying our perfectly fine South American fruits. Guess I’ll just have to enjoy my apples with a side of bureaucratic nonsense instead. 🍏🙄

So, we’re banning South American fruits because a few nasty chemicals decided to hitch a ride—brilliant, just what we need, more bland apples. 🍏 Bon appétit, folks!

  8. Typical, isn’t it? Just when you thought you could enjoy a good avocado toast without a side of banned substances, France swoops in like a knight in shining armour. 🍏✌️

Oh great, just what we need – an avocado shortage to go with our baguettes. If only those pesky South American fruits could learn to play by our rules, maybe then we wouldn’t need to serve them the good ol’ French exit! 🍷🥑

Guess it’s about time we put our foot down on those funky South American fruits, eh? 🍏 Because nothing says “healthy” like a banana that might double as a chemical experiment! 😂

Looks like the French are finally putting their foot down—no more dodgy avocados! 🍏 Just what we need, a trade deal that promises “freedom” but delivers only fruit with a side of pesticides. 😂

Just when you thought it was safe to enjoy your exotic fruits, France rolls out the red carpet for a ban on South American goodies. 🍏 Because nothing says “we care about health” like a late-night Twitter announcement, right? 😂

Oh, brilliant move, stopping the imports of avocados and mangoes just when we were all about to start our own tropical fruit market in Paris. Who needs a taste of South America when we’ve got enough bureaucracy to choke a horse? 🍐✈️

  17. Oh, fantastic! Just what we needed, more paperwork and less ripe avocados. I guess we’ll just have to survive on our “organic” apples while the rest of the world enjoys a proper fruit salad. 🍏😂

Just what we needed, another excuse to keep our avocados local and overpriced. 🍏 Who needs exotic fruits when you have the delightful “flavours” of European bureaucracy? 😂

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need – a little more bureaucracy to stop our beloved fruits from getting the taste of South American sunshine. 🍊🙄 Let’s hope the European Commission is feeling generous during their afternoon coffee break!
