UK, France Strike IS Weapons Bunker in Syria

Britain and France carried out a joint strike late Saturday on an underground arms cache in Syria used by Islamic State (IS), according to the U.K. defense ministry.

Royal Air Force Typhoon jets, along with French aircraft, conducted the strike near Palmyra in central Syria, the ministry stated.

“Intelligence analysis identified an underground facility in the mountains north of Palmyra,” the ministry noted. Officials believed this facility contained arms and explosives, as per the statement.

“Our aircraft employed Paveway IV guided bombs to target several access tunnels to the facility,” the ministry added. The aircraft “achieved successful strikes,” it concluded.
