Barrot emphasizes the Clooney family’s permanent residence in southern France, with their children attending school there, and highlights their personal and professional connections to the country.
The letter cites the Clooneys’ philanthropy, noting they embody values of solidarity, freedom, and creativity promoted by France worldwide. It also mentions George Clooney’s professional activities benefiting the French film industry financially.
A spokesperson confirmed Barrot requested and obtained citizenship for the Clooneys on Dec. 26, as noted in France’s public records.
A spokesperson for George Clooney did not respond to comments.
George Clooney, along with his wife Amal—a human rights lawyer—run the Clooney Justice Foundation, providing free legal aid for free speech and women’s rights across over 40 countries. In Europe, Clooney’s activism has clashed with Russian authorities and Hungary’s Viktor Orban, whom he criticized for promoting “anger and hate.”
