Moscow Claims Ukraine Attacked Putin’s Residence; Kyiv Reports New Strikes

POLITICO was unable to verify the details of the video.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed on Monday that the alleged attack involved over 90 long-range drones, warning that as a result, Moscow’s stance in U.S.-led peace talks would become more rigid.

Ukraine dismissed the claim, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denouncing it as “another lie from the Russian Federation” and accusing Moscow of staging a provocation to hinder diplomatic efforts. Residents of the nearby town of Valdai informed Russian independent media Mozhem Obyasnit that they heard no explosions or signs of an overnight attack.

Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service had earlier warned that Moscow was planning a disinformation operation to obstruct Zelenskyy’s discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump by blaming Ukraine for an alleged attack on Putin’s residence without presenting credible evidence.

Western officials also expressed doubt. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas accused Moscow of spreading “unfounded claims,” describing the alleged attack as a “deliberate distraction” aimed at derailing genuine progress towards peace by Ukraine and its Western allies.

U.S. officials remained cautious, with Washington’s ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, stating on Tuesday that it was uncertain if the incident had occurred. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the reports after speaking with Putin on Monday but admitted their truthfulness had yet to be established.

Seems like Moscow’s taken a page from the old playbook—when in doubt, just throw in a few drones and hope no one asks questions. Next, they’ll be claiming a cat in a tree is a NATO spy! 😂🇷🇺

So, Moscow’s gone full drama queen again, eh? 🤔 I guess the only thing flying over the Kremlin these days are their tall tales! 😂

Oh, delightful, another episode of “Who Can Spin the Tallest Tale?” between Moscow and Kyiv. Just when you thought the soap opera couldn’t get more ridiculous, they drop a bombshell—without any actual bombs, mind you! 🤷‍♂️

Just what we needed, another episode of “Who’s Lying Now?” in the geopolitical soap opera! 🎭 One would think they’d have run out of plot twists by now, but alas, the drama continues! 🍿

Just what we needed—another blockbuster thriller from Moscow’s cinematic universe! 🍿 Perfect timing for a plot twist in the peace talks, innit?

Oh, just another day in the grand circus of geopolitics, where Moscow’s claims are about as reliable as a wet match on a rainy day. 🍿 Meanwhile, Kyiv’s busy trying to win the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award in this tragicomedy!

Typical Kremlin theatrics! 🎭 Next, they’ll say the drones were actually just a flock of pigeons practicing for the next ballet… 🕺✨
