Hasselt Unveils 4 New Study Areas with Over 500 Seats

Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Hasselt adds 4 new study locations—Bootstraat, Fashion Museum, Monke Temple, and Macca Club—offering 500+ spaces, with yoga and live music breaks at the last 2, supporting students’ exam prep.

As VRT News reported, December in Hasselt is a busy month of Christmas lights, holiday markets, and New Year celebrations. They mentioned that for students, the focus is different: studying for January exams. To help them, the city is expanding its “cramming bars.” 4 new locations will open across the city. Free Wi-Fi and many power outlets are available.

What are Hasselt’s study locations for winter exams 2025?

Officials mentioned that each new location has its own style. Some are quiet and library-like. Others are more relaxed and social, but still suitable for studying. The variety is designed to suit different study habits. Hasselt hopes the new spaces will reduce stress and make exam preparation easier.

“I was a student myself not so long ago,”

says Dries Martens, Alderman for Student Affairs (Vooruit).

“Back then, I could study peacefully at Chiro, but many students don’t have a suitable place to concentrate. With these locations, we want to support them during the exam period.”

Every year, the city of Hasselt opens permanent study locations to support students during the exam season. This winter, students can use spaces at ‘t Scheep City Hall, the LRH police station, the city library, and the PXL Tower. In total, the city offers more than 500 study spaces across 17 locations.

“We’re adding four special locations. Students can now choose from Bootstraat, the Fashion Museum, the Monke Temple yoga club, and the Macca Club,”

says Martens.

“Monke Temple and the Macca Club also offer a special activity: students can relax with a yoga session or live music during their study break.”

Many locations, such as Bootstraat and the Fashion Museum, are open continuously during regular business hours. Full details about all study locations, including opening hours, are available on the city of Hasselt’s official website.

“However, for Monke Temple and the Macca Club, space is limited and specific hours are set aside. Anyone wishing to study there must therefore reserve a spot in advance,”

the alderman explained.

Hasselt is expanding its support for students during exams. The city has offered study spaces for over 10 years, starting in the early 2010s with cafés and the city library. By 2018, Bootstraat and the Fashion Museum were added, giving students quiet and social study options. Every winter, from early December to late January, these locations help students prepare for January exams.
