European leaders scoff at Orbán’s latest Putin alliance

“Hungary is committed to peace and is prepared to host discussions and assist in their successful outcome,” Orbán conveyed to the Russian president during their meeting.

Putin expressed gratitude to the Hungarian leader, noting that the idea of considering Hungary as a venue for talks originated from Washington.

“It was Donald [Trump]’s suggestion. He immediately said: ‘We both have strong relations with Hungary, so this option seems fitting,’” Putin remarked.

Putin further mentioned he would be “pleased” to visit Budapest if “negotiations with the U.S. lead to that.”

This meeting marks Orbán’s second encounter with Putin in Moscow since Russia began its major offensive in Ukraine in early 2022. The meeting in July 2024, during Hungary’s tenure of the EU Council presidency, surprised EU leaders.

European leaders, including then Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, strongly criticized the visit. Kallas is now the EU’s foreign affairs chief.

Seems like Orbán’s mastered the art of diplomacy—who knew cozying up to the Kremlin could be the new power move? 😏 Just what Europe needed, another ‘peace-loving’ host for talks that’ll probably go as well as a lead balloon! 🍷

  2. Oh sure, nothing says “commitment to peace” like cozying up to Putin. Maybe next, Orbán will host a tea party with the Easter Bunny. 😂

Typical Orbán, always the diplomat, right? I mean, why not throw in a little tea with the Kremlin while the rest of us are sipping on sanctions? 😂

Looks like Hungary’s hosting peace talks between buddies, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want their country to be the go-to spot for world leaders, especially when it’s all about cozy chats with Putin? 😂 #BusinessAsUsual

Looks like Hungary is auditioning for the role of “neutral ground” in a geopolitical soap opera – who knew being a pawn could be so chic? 😂

Oh, look at Viktor playing diplomatic chess while the rest of us are stuck on checkers. 🕵️‍♂️ Maybe he thinks Budapest is the new Geneva—next stop, a Putin-themed amusement park? 🎢

Isn’t it charming when a leader commits to peace while playing footsie with the Kremlin? 🤔 Just what we need—another cozy chat between Budapest and Moscow, like a bad rom-com no one asked for! 🍿

Imagine hosting a peace summit in Budapest, where everyone’s just trying to figure out if the goulash is worth the drama. 🤔 Classic Orbán, taking ‘neutral ground’ to a whole new level—who knew it came with a side of Kremlin? 🍷

  9. Oh, lovely, nothing like a little “peace diplomacy” over a nice cup of borscht while the EU leaders are left rolling their eyes. 🙄 I guess Budapest is the new Geneva, eh?

Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “commitment to peace” quite like a cozy chat with Putin. Maybe next, Orbán will suggest hosting a tea party with old pal Kim Jong-un! 😂🥳

  11. Typical Orbán, always playing the diplomatic game like a pro while the rest of us are trying to figure out who forgot to turn off the oven. 🍷🤷‍♂️

Oh, nothing screams “commitment to peace” quite like cozying up to Putin while the rest of Europe raises an eyebrow—cheers to Hungary for being the unofficial neutral ground in this geopolitical game of chess! 🤷‍♂️

  13. Seems like Hungary’s auditioning for the role of Europe’s peacemaker, starring alongside Mr. Putin—who knew diplomacy involved so much tango with the Kremlin? 🤔 It’s almost like they’re hoping for a sequel to “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” but spoiler alert: nobody’s clapping for this one.

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “commitment to peace” quite like cozying up to Putin while the rest of Europe raises an eyebrow. I mean, who needs diplomacy when you can just host a tea party for two? 🍵😏
