EP approves minimum age of 16 for access to networks and AI

BRUSSELS – The European Parliament (EP) has adopted a non-binding resolution that sets a minimum age of 16 for access to social media and artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to ensure the appropriateness of online content for different age groups.

According to the EP’s announcement, lawmakers have urged EU member states to implement legislation instituting a minimum access age of 16 for social media and AI platforms. They also recommended that individuals aged 13 to 16 be granted access with parental consent, while access for those under 13 should be prohibited. This resolution is politically significant but does not carry legal authority, reflecting the EP’s stance on the issue.

As outlined in the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), online platforms must adhere to the regulations of EU member states, each of which has the discretion to determine the minimum age for access to social media and AI. (November 26)

  1. Oh brilliant, because nothing screams “mature decision-making” like letting teenagers loose on AI and social media at 16. 🙄 What’s next, a vote on the best TikTok dance for political debates?

Finally, a groundbreaking decision from the EP—because clearly, 16 is the magic number for wisdom in the digital age. 🧐 Next, they’ll be telling us that coffee is only for grown-ups! ☕️✨

Fantastic! Because nothing screams “maturity” like letting 16-year-olds loose on the internet. Can’t wait to see the results of this brilliant idea—cheers to the future! 😏🍻

Brilliant move, isn’t it? Because nothing says “responsible digital future” like letting teens loose on AI with just a nod from mum and dad. 😏

  5. Isn’t it just lovely that we’re trusting 16-year-olds with AI? Next, they’ll be running the EU from their bedrooms! 😂 #FutureLeaders

Oh, brilliant move, EP! Because we all know that a sprinkle of ’16’ on the cake of internet access will magically turn teens into responsible digital citizens. 🍰🙄

  7. Looks like we’re trusting 16-year-olds with AI now – brilliant! Next, let’s hand them the keys to the economy too, shall we? 😂

  8. Brilliant! Just what we needed—more red tape for teens who already know how to outsmart their parents on the internet. 🙄 I suppose by 16, they’ll be ready to handle the stress of social media like seasoned politicians juggling scandals! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—16-year-olds navigating the wild world of AI like they’re choosing a filter for their selfies. 🤦‍♂️ Can’t wait for the drama when they start “debating” AI ethics over their avocado toasts! 🍞🥑

Brilliant, because nothing says “responsibility” like letting 16-year-olds loose on social media and AI—what could possibly go wrong? 🤦‍♂️ Typical EU, always finding new ways to babysit the internet while we pretend it’s for the kids’ own good! 📱💼

Just what we needed, another brilliant EU proposal to keep the youths safe from the big bad internet at the grand age of 16! 😂 Because we all know teenagers are only ever sensible and responsible after a few birthdays, right? 🥳

Looks like the EP’s really cracked the code on youth safety—16 to dive into the digital deep end, but 15? Nah, that’s just madness! 😂 Maybe next they’ll decide 18 is too low for a pint, eh? 🍻

So, the EP thinks 16 is the magic number for online wisdom—great, just what we need: teenagers scrolling through memes while pretending to understand AI. 😂 Just hope they read the fine print before clicking ‘agree’, eh?

16, eh? Finally, the EP’s got its finger on the pulse of the youth—because clearly, the internet was just too responsible for 13-year-olds before this! 😂 #Progress

Oh, brilliant! Finally, a groundbreaking decision that will surely keep our 16-year-olds safe from their own questionable choices online. 🙄 Can’t wait for the parental consent forms to start piling up like my last tax return! 🥴

So now we’re letting the clever lot at 16 decide if they can handle the wild world of social media and AI? Brilliant, because nothing says “mature decision-making” like a selfie and a TikTok dance. 🎉😂

Of course, because we all know teenagers at 16 are the epitome of wise decision-making when it comes to social media and AI. 🙄 Who needs actual laws when we can just recommend things like a friendly neighbor at a pub? 🍻
