WNTR Brasschaat Launches with Ice Rink, Chalets & Live Shows

Brasschaat (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – WNTR Brasschaat opened Friday, Nov 21, 2025, at 4 p.m. with chalets serving hot chocolate, mulled wine, and churros. The winter village at Hemelweide runs until January 4, 2026.

As GVA News reported, Brasschaat, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, welcomed the start of its winter season on Friday evening, Nov 21, 2025, with the opening of the winter village. Wooden chalets were set up to serve hot chocolate, mulled wine, and fresh churros.

Officials mentioned that the centrepiece of the village is a real ice rink, where visitors of all ages can skate. A session costs £10, and skaters can stay on the ice for as long as they like. This year, the organisers made sure the skates are preheated, so visitors do not have to put on cold or wet skates. Lockers are placed next to the rink, allowing children to store backpacks safely while skating.

What’s new at Brasschaat winter village this season?

The winter village has also been expanded this year. Bumper cars were added. Visitors can warm up on several covered terraces throughout the site. Families with young children will benefit from a separate heated baby changing area, fully equipped with all necessary facilities. Organisers focused on comfort and convenience to make the village more accessible for everyone.

The winter village in Brasschaat opened with a striking new entrance designed by Eye Opener from Lommel, the company behind sets for Tomorrowland and Plopsaland. Large ski lift cabins from Courchevel and La Plagne are displayed at the site. Inside one of the cabins, visitors can take a breathalyser test. Organisers introduced this feature to help prevent people from driving after consuming alcohol.

Visitors can also enjoy a series of live performances at the Hemelweide in the coming weeks. A DJ will play music every Friday and Saturday to entertain crowds. On November 30, 2025, Sinterklaas will make an appearance. The character Lilo from Lilo & Stitch will also visit. The main highlight of the season is the K3 show on December 28, 2025, for which a few tickets are still available.

The Brasschaat winter village opened for the 1st time in June 2023 as part of a multi-year effort to bring events with a distinctly seasonal aspect to the town. The event ran from late 2024 (22 November until 5 January) and included a real ice rink and other festive attractions for visitors. The most recent edition opened on 21 November 2025 and will run until 4 January 2026, expanding the winter village into a space of 7,000m².

Oh, look at Brasschaat trying to compete with the Alps by opening a winter wonderland! Nothing says “Belgian charm” quite like overpriced hot chocolate and a DJ spinning tunes while we all pretend we’re in a ski resort. 😏⛷️

  2. Looks like Brasschaat’s winter wonderland is a real marvel – who knew a shopping centre could double as a ski resort? 🎿☕️ Just what the world needed: a breathalyser test in a ski lift, because nothing says festive like being reminded you can’t drive after one too many mulled wines! 🍷😂

Oh joy, nothing screams winter quite like overpriced mulled wine and a DJ spinning tunes while we skate in a glorified car park. Just what we needed, another excuse to don our finest thermals and pretend we’re in the Alps! 😏🛷

Oh joy, an ice rink in Belgium—just what we needed to complement our already freezing winters! 🎉 Who knew mulled wine and churros would be the ultimate remedy for slipping on ice like a true professional? 🥴
