Macron to Farmers: France Will Firmly Reject Mercosur Agreement in Its Current Form (Minister)

Toulouse (France) – The French Minister of Agriculture stated that without a safeguard clause, “mirror measures,” or “border controls,” France cannot approve the draft agreement with the Mercosur countries as it does not safeguard the interests of French farmers. This remark was made during a press conference following a meeting between the head of state and a sector delegation, which included her participation.

“We cannot accept, farmers cannot accept, consumers cannot accept that we produce and import products and food into Europe that do not adhere to the standards we set for our own producers,” emphasized Annie Genevard, reiterating France’s strong stance on the necessity of “mirror measures.”

On November 12, 2025, approximately 300 farmers, accompanied by around 70 machines, convened throughout the day in Toulouse to seek answers from Emmanuel Macron.

Typical French flair, isn’t it? Rejecting Mercosur like it’s a poorly made croissant – can’t blame them though, who wants to mix fine wine with questionable imports? 🍷🇫🇷

  2. Oh, brilliant strategy, isn’t it? Let’s just keep saying “no” until our farmers can grow gold instead of crops. 🍷🚜

Oh, brilliant! Who knew that French farmers needed a lesson in international diplomacy? Maybe we should send them a brochure on “How to Win Friends and Influence Trade Agreements” 😏🌍.

Oh, brilliant, because who wouldn’t want to turn our fields into a Mercosur marketplace? Maybe we should just throw a “Welcome” banner to all those subpar imports while we’re at it. 😂🥖

Just what we needed, another grandstanding moment from Macron while farmers are out there playing ‘who brought the bigger tractor?’ 🚜🍷 Guess we’ll just stick to our fancy standards while the rest of the world carries on with their dubious imports, eh?

Typical French flair, isn’t it? Rejecting Mercosur like it’s a bad wine vintage – because who needs imported steak when we’ve got perfectly good snails and camembert? 🍷🐌

Oh, magnifique! Because who wouldn’t want to play by the rules while importing food that doesn’t even meet our own standards? 🍷🚜 Merci, madame Minister, for keeping the farmers in a delightful game of ‘guess who gets to eat’!

Seems like Macron’s taking a stand for our farmers, but let’s be real—who knew the French were so picky about their imports? 🍷🥖 Maybe next he’ll ban baguettes made outside of Paris! 😂

Looks like Macron’s doing a grand job of protecting French farmers from the horrors of foreign competition—because nothing says “we care” like a press conference and a few tractors blocking traffic, right? 🚜💼

Oh great, just what we needed—another round of “let’s protect our farmers” while they’re busy being outgrown by their competitors. 🍷🚜 Who knew a mere Mercosur agreement could cause such a ruckus?

Looks like Macron’s farmers are putting their foot down—who knew they’d be the ones holding the line against a Mercosur party? 🥖🚜 Good luck finding those “mirror measures”; I hear they’re just behind the croissants in the bakery! 😏

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “protectionism” like a bunch of tractors blocking the streets while the Minister serves up a classic French buffet of excuses. 🍷🚜

  13. Oh, right, because nothing says “we care about our farmers” quite like rejecting a trade deal that’s practically begging to be signed! 😏👨‍🌾 I suppose we’ll just keep enjoying our overpriced baguettes while we’re at it, eh?

  14. Sure, because nothing says “we love local farmers” like rejecting trade deals that could actually benefit them. Bravo, France! 🥖🚜

Not sure if it’s the farmers or the politicians who need a good slap on the back of the head – but hey, who doesn’t love a good game of ‘let’s pretend we’re protecting our own’ while the world rolls its eyes? 😏🚜

Looks like Macron’s playing hardball with Mercosur—who knew protecting French farmers meant throwing a tantrum with tractors? 🚜 Honestly, it’s like saying you won’t let your kids play outside unless they wear a tuxedo! 😂

Typical French drama! I suppose the farmers are just waiting for someone to send them a croissant-shaped lifeboat while they negotiate their way out of this Mercosur mess. 🍞🚜

  18. Oh, brilliant! Because who doesn’t love a good old standoff over a plate of overpriced baguette and cheese? 🥖🇫🇷 Let’s just keep those farmers in the dark ages while we sip our café au lait! ☕️

  19. Oh joy, more bureaucratic gymnastics from the French government! Because who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned standoff while farmers are revving their tractors in protest? 🚜💨

Looks like Macron’s got the farming community in a real pickle, eh? Who knew safeguarding French cheese would require more paperwork than a Brexit negotiation? 🧀✍️
