The tenth edition of the European Integration School has commenced in Tirana, attracting participants from various sectors, including administration, non-profits, business, media, and academia. Over the course of one week, attendees will deepen their understanding of EU policies, institutions, and Albania’s integration process, contributing actively to this effort.
Silvio Gonzato, the EU Delegation Ambassador in Tirana, spoke at the school’s opening ceremony, underscoring the importance of sustaining reform momentum for Albania’s goal of completing negotiation chapters by 2027.
He stressed the critical role of public administration in this journey.
“Now is the time that Albania needs you. Your country will benefit from your expertise, skills, and knowledge. The success of these negotiations relies on having qualified and motivated personnel in all essential institutions. Investing in individuals is crucial for establishing a professional, sustainable civil service capable of meeting Albania’s EU commitments. The European Union is fully committed to supporting Albania in developing the necessary structures, skills, and sustainability to fulfill its obligations to the EU,” said EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato.
Ambassador Gonzato noted that Albania is entering a pivotal stage in the membership process following the opening of all cluster chapters.
“This is why the report indicates that Albania must sustain and even quicken the pace of reforms. This is vital if Albania aims to achieve the ambitious objective of concluding negotiations by the end of 2027,” Gonzato added.
Niko Peleshi, Chairman of the Assembly of Albania, acknowledged the significance of the European Integration School, highlighting that this year’s edition received a record 430 applications, double that of last year.
Peleshi remarked that Albania’s pursuit of EU membership has been a long-standing national goal. “We are diligently working to turn membership into reality. This progress fills us with optimism while serving as a reminder of the responsibilities ahead,” he stated.
The 10th edition of the European Integration School is organized by the Assembly of Albania and the National Council for European Integration, in collaboration with the Open Society Foundation for Albania (OSFA), the European Union Delegation, and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation.
