Three Arrested in Zeebrugge and UK as Five Albanian Migrants Rescued

Zeebrugge (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – An international operation on November 5, 2025, led to 3 arrests in Zeebrugge and the UK; 5 Albanian migrants were rescued, and the 43-year-old Ukrainian driver is charged.

As VRT News reported, an international police operation has led to 3 arrests in a case of human smuggling linked to the port of Zeebrugge. The coordinated action involved the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) in the United Kingdom and the West Flanders Federal Judicial Police (FGP) in Belgium.

The operation took place on November 5, 2025, with support from special units and the maritime police. During the operation, officers searched a truck in the port and found 5 Albanian men hidden in the back. The migrants, aged 25 to 39, were safely removed and given medical attention.

The 43-year-old Ukrainian driver was arrested at the scene. Police said the men were victims of human smuggling and had been transported in unsafe conditions. His arrest was confirmed by the presiding judge earlier today, Nov 10, 2025. The West Flanders Federal Judicial Police are continuing the investigation under the supervision of the Bruges investigating judge.

Who was arrested in Zeebrugge and the UK during the human smuggling raid?

At the same time, British police made 2 more arrests connected to the same case. Investigators believe the suspects are part of a network moving migrants from mainland Europe to the United Kingdom.

The operation targeted a route used to move people illegally through ports under dangerous circumstances. Officials from both countries called the arrests a major step in the fight against human smuggling.

On the same day as the police action in Zeebrugge, 2 men were arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with the human smuggling case. A 33-year-old man from Southampton and a 55-year-old man from Bournemouth were taken into custody near Southbourne Grove in Bournemouth. The arrests were carried out by British officers who had been working closely with Belgian investigators.

Police say the 2 suspects are believed to have played a role in arranging or supporting the transport of migrants from Belgium to the UK.

The probe into the smuggling organisation began in February 2025, when police in Belgium and the United Kingdom monitored domestic truck movements from Zeebrugge to ports in southern England.

In March 2025, the West Flanders Federal Judicial Police (FGP) and the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) collaborated to establish how migrants were being illegally moved across the English Channel.

Over months, investigators tracked transport routes, examined communications, and discovered further information regarding suspects operating in both countries. By September 2025, officers had identified persons of interest in each jurisdiction.

Oh, look at that, a human smuggling operation that’s not quite the ‘Eurotrip’ everyone dreams of. Guess some folks think hiding in a truck is the new first-class travel! 🚚💨

  3. Just another day in Zeebrugge, where our port’s more popular than a Eurotrip on a budget! 🚢 Guess 5 Albanian blokes decided to hitch a ride with the wrong driver—talk about taking the scenic route to the UK! 😂

Looks like the smuggling business just got a dose of “international cooperation,” eh? Who knew moving people was such a joint venture? 😂

Only in Europe can we turn a human smuggling operation into a group rescue outing, eh? Bravo to the boys in blue for finding the Albanian five — that’s one way to spice up a dreary day in Zeebrugge! 😂

Seems like the only thing moving faster than the migrants is the police response—at least someone’s making a timely delivery in Zeebrugge! 🚔💨

  7. Seems like the only thing moving smoothly in Zeebrugge these days is not the migrants but the police operations! 🤷‍♂️ Next time, maybe they should just offer a proper ferry ride instead of this dodgy truck business, eh? 🚛💨

Just another day in the lovely game of ‘hide and seek’ on the high seas, eh? 🤷‍♂️ Who knew rescuing a handful of Albanians could lead to a major crime-busting event—maybe the EU should start handing out medals for the most thrilling truck inspections! 🚛💨

So, three blokes get pinched in Zeebrugge while trying to smuggle five Albanians—just your typical Tuesday in the EU, eh? At least they found a cozy ride in the back of a truck instead of a posh yacht! 😂

Oh, look at that! Just when you thought Zeebrugge was all about waffles and beer, turns out it’s also a hotspot for human smuggling. Who knew a truck full of Albanians could be the latest tourist attraction? 😂

Just what we needed, another heroic rescue mission in the land of waffles and beer. Who knew human smuggling could be so international, eh? 🍻🚛

  12. Oh, just another day in the life of our charming ports; who knew Zeebrugge was the latest hotspot for a game of human Tetris? 🚛💨 At least the Albanians got a free tour, albeit a rather cramped one! 😂

Looks like the whole “migrant smuggling business” got a bit too hot for these lads, eh? Next time, maybe take a lesson from the good ol’ Belgian waffles – sweet but definitely not something you’d want to hide in the back of a truck! 😏🚛

Just when you thought human smuggling was a dying art, here comes a plot twist worthy of a European soap opera! 🚚💨 Five Albanians rescued while three “heroes” get arrested—now that’s what I call a classic case of dodgy logistics! 😏

Just what we needed, another international drama featuring a truckload of Albanians and a Ukrainian driver—sounds like the perfect sequel to “Transporter”! 🚚💨 Who knew human smuggling could be so popular? 😂

Only in Europe do we manage to turn a smuggling operation into a joint police operation – because nothing says teamwork like three arrests and five rescues! 😂 Who needs a vacation when you can just hop on a truck with some mates?

Seems like the only thing more surprising than finding five Albanians in the back of a truck in Zeebrugge is that someone thought it was a good idea to smuggle them there in the first place. 🤷‍♂️ Who knew human trafficking was still a thing in 2025?

Who knew Zeebrugge had more drama than a French soap opera? 🚛💼 Three arrests and a Ukrainian driver—guess the only thing getting smuggled here is common sense! 😏

Brilliant teamwork between Belgium and the UK, eh? I mean, who knew rescuing migrants could double as an arrest party? 🥳 #HumanSmugglingGala

Another day, another smuggling ring busted—who knew the “great escape” could involve five Albanians in the back of a lorry? 🍻 At least they got a medical check-up; maybe that’s the real luxury treatment these days! 😂
