Santa Marta – During the fourth summit between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Santa Marta, Colombia, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon highlighted the summit’s demonstration of both regions’ dedication to collaboration in tackling shared challenges, including international security and climate change.
Fajon stated, “Our shared values, encompassing a commitment to multilateralism and the green transition, alongside challenges like ensuring citizen safety and combatting climate change, unite us. Thus, strengthening cooperation among regions with deep economic, social, and cultural connections is a natural choice.”
She noted Slovenia’s particular focus on digitalization and artificial intelligence, including supercomputing, as part of EU collaboration with the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Fajon emphasized that Slovenia has a strong tradition of collaboration in multilateral initiatives, which has been bolstered by its ongoing term on the United Nations Security Council, where it has recently worked alongside Ecuador, Guyana, and currently Panama.
Additionally, Minister Fajon endorsed the proposal at the summit for a woman to assume the role of UN Secretary-General in the future. (November 9)
