Donald Trump Warns BBC of Imminent Lawsuit

LONDON — Donald Trump has issued a letter to the BBC, threatening legal action due to a contentious dispute over its reporting on his administration.

The development, initially reported by BBC News on Monday afternoon, follows the resignation of the broadcaster’s director general and its most senior news executive in the wake of controversy surrounding coverage of the U.S. president’s statements on January 6, 2021 — the day the U.S. Congress was breached by rioters.

The broadcaster stated that it will review Trump’s team’s letter and will provide a response in due course.

Director General Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness announced their departure from the corporation on Sunday night after a tumultuous week of headlines regarding the broadcaster’s coverage of Trump and other contentious topics. Trump and his press representative have praised these resignations on social media.

This developing story is being updated.
