Published on November 6, 2025, the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) latest review emphasizes the progress of European countries in climate adaptation planning and policy adoption. However, it stresses the need for enhanced implementation and evaluation to tackle rising climate risks effectively. All 32 EEA member countries, including the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and Türkiye, now have national adaptation policies, with 17 embedding adaptation in climate laws. The EEA’s report highlights 2025 data from the EU-27 and voluntary reports from Iceland, Switzerland, and Türkiye, identifying frequent climate hazards such as heatwaves, floods, and droughts. Agriculture and health sectors are notably affected, calling for robust climate risk assessments and evidence-based actions. Despite some advancements, challenges like data gaps and limited local capacities persist. The EEA also released the annual “Trends and Projections in Europe” report. This review is part of an EEA series assessing Europe’s climate resilience progress.
