Carney’s comments came a day after Trump told reporters that the Canadian prime minister had expressed his regret. “I have a good relationship with Carney. I like him a lot, but what they did was inappropriate. He was gracious and apologized for what they did with the commercial,” Trump stated.
Carney mentioned he had advised Ontario Premier Doug Ford not to air the contentious ad featuring Reagan, meant for American viewers and broadcast during the baseball World Series.
“I informed Ford I did not want to proceed with the ad,” Carney said.
However, Ford claimed that the ad campaign was “very effective” because it had upset Trump. “You know why President Trump is so upset right now? Because it was effective. It was working; it alerted the entire country,” Ford remarked.
