First Frontex Personnel Deployed in BiH

SARAJEVO – The first contingent of one hundred police officers from EU member countries has arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to support Frontex operations aimed at enhancing border protection, preventing illegal migration, and addressing cross-border crime. Their mission was officially launched on Friday, with attendance from EU officials and local leaders.

During an event in Sarajevo, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, listened as Frontex Executive Director, Hans Leijtens, emphasized the agency’s commitment to securing European borders and extending assistance to countries in the Western Balkans.

“We have approximately 3,500 officers, over 600 of whom are stationed in the Western Balkans. In BiH, Frontex personnel from various European nations, including Latvia, Belgium, and Portugal, will be present. Our objective is to aid BiH in safeguarding its borders,” stated Leijtens.

Frontex officers will engage in joint patrols with BiH’s Border Police and contribute to surveillance operations at land border crossings and airports.

They are restricted from independent operations and will collaborate closely with BiH border police, adhering to the country’s laws and international norms.

The formal agreement for Frontex’s participation in BiH was established in June this year, building on successful collaborations with other Western Balkan nations and Moldova.

This initiative is believed to have significantly decreased the number of illegal migrants trying to enter EU member states via the region.

In 2022, over 140,000 instances were reported, which plummeted to just above 21,000 two years later. (October 31, 2025)

Oh, fantastic, a hundred police officers strutting into BiH to save the day—because clearly, the locals just couldn’t handle it themselves, could they? 😂 Bravo, EU, it’s like sending in the cavalry for a kitten rescue!

  2. Oh great, more police in BiH! Just what we needed – a European border control holiday camp. 🏖️ Hope they brought their fancy coffee machines! ☕️

  3. Oh, lovely! Nothing says “we trust you” like sending a hundred officers to babysit the borders of Bosnia. 🤷‍♂️ Must be a real treat for our friends in BiH to get a crash course in “How to Follow Rules 101.” 🥳

Oh great, a hundred officers from the EU showing up in BiH – just what we needed, more people in uniforms strolling around like it’s a fashion show. 🤦‍♂️ Let’s hope they brought their best ‘don’t-mind-us-we’re-just-here-to-help’ smiles! 😂

Oh, brilliant! A hundred officers from the EU to help BiH, because clearly, it’s not like they’ve got their own border police or anything. 🕵️‍♂️💼 Just what we need—more uniforms and fewer solutions!

  8. Oh, brilliant! Just what BiH needed—more EU officers counting how many times they can nod without actually solving anything. 🙄

  9. Oh, brilliant! A hundred officers from Europe to “help” Bosnia, because clearly, the local border police were just waiting for a rescue party. Guess the EU finally figured that a few foreigners in hi-vis jackets could solve all the local problems. 😂

  10. Oh brilliant, 100 police officers from various EU countries—because nothing says “we trust you to handle your own borders” quite like a squad of foreigners watching over your shoulder! 😂✨

Finally, some EU officers are here to help BiH with border control! Guess it took a few hundred years of bureaucracy to realize that a little cooperation might actually work. 🚓💼

Oh great, just what BiH needed—an extra hundred officers to remind us how to guard our own borders! Guess we’ll be getting a masterclass in border protection from the EU’s finest, while the rest of us are just trying to get through the day without a passport check! 😂✈️

Oh great, a hundred officers from the EU just in time to teach us how to guard our own backyard. I suppose they’ll be serving tea and biscuits while they’re at it too! 🍵😏

  17. Oh, splendid news! Nothing screams “we trust you” quite like sending in a hundred officers to babysit the borders of BiH. 🚓 Just what we need—a European chaperone for our borders, because who doesn’t love a little extra oversight, eh? 😂

So, let me get this straight: we send a hundred EU cops to BiH to stop illegal migrants while the rest of Europe is still trying to figure out how to park their cars properly? Classic! 😂🚔

  19. Oh, splendid! Just what Bosnia needs—an elite squad of European police officers to show us how to keep our borders safe. Next up, a crash course in border security from our friends in Latvia and Portugal. 🍷🚔
