Fico: The Party of European Socialists (PES) Has Fully Abandoned Traditional Leftist Principles

Bratislava – Slovakia’s forthcoming consolidation phase will differ from that of 2024 and 2025, as stated by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) on Sunday. He also addressed the recent exclusion of his party from the Party of European Socialists (PES), which occurred on Friday, October 17, according to TASR.

In a video shared on social media, Fico discussed the anticipated consolidation in Slovakia over the next few years, noting the upcoming state budget vote scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, while also sharing his thoughts on Smer-SD’s PES exclusion.

Robert Fico criticized PES, claiming it has strayed from traditional leftist values. He attributed Smer-SD’s exclusion to the amendment of Slovakia’s Constitution and expressed his disbelief at being criticized for attending celebrations marking victories over fascism in Moscow and Beijing.

“If my participation in commemorating the victory over fascism and the constitutional recognition of man and woman is the basis for Smer-SD’s termination from PES, then I take pride in this exclusion,” Fico remarked on Friday, following the PES congress announcement in Amsterdam.

The congress delegates voted unanimously, with no opposition or abstentions, to expel the Slovak political party led by Fico. PES General Secretary Giacomo Filibeck stated prior to the vote that “Smer-SD’s actions in recent years have been serious and strongly opposed to the values and principles of our family.”

Fico also indicated that his differing views on the Ukraine war contributed to the exclusion and confirmed that his party’s members in the European Parliament, currently in the Non-Attached group, are exploring various options. “As for our activities in the European Parliament, we have received offers from other groups for inclusion, but we need to consider them carefully to ensure they align with our Slovak social democracy priorities,” Fico added. “Smer-SD’s actions in recent years have been serious and strongly contrary to the values and principles of the Party of European Socialists.” Giacomo Filibeck

Seems like Fico just got kicked out of the socialist club for trying to wear his Sunday best to a pajama party. Who knew principles were so… flexible? 😂

Seems like Fico’s got a knack for redefining “leftist values” just when the party decides to kick him out for it. Who knew a little fascism commemoration could lead to such social democracy drama? 😂✌️

Seems like Fico really knows how to throw a tantrum when the grown-ups play by the rules. 🍷 Who knew being expelled from PES could feel like winning a gold medal in ‘not-so-socialist antics’? 😂

  4. Oh, look at Fico, the proud pioneer of redefined leftism—who knew you could take a left turn and end up in the right lane? 😂 Just what we need, a party that thinks slapping a “socialist” label on nostalgia makes it a winning strategy.

Seems like Fico’s idea of “traditional leftist values” is just a fancy way to say he’s got a one-way ticket to the political wilderness. 😂 Good luck trying to find a lefty in the PES who’s keen on a historical tour of fascism victories!

Seems like Fico is just a tad confused; who knew abandoning your principles could be such a trendy move? 😂 Guess the PES is all about that ‘new-age’ socialism now, eh?

  7. Quite the plot twist, isn’t it? Fico’s party gets the boot from PES for clinging to ‘tradition’—should we start calling it the Party of Exceptional Socialists now? 😂

Oh, look at Fico, the self-proclaimed guardian of leftist values, throwing a tantrum like a child who’s just been told the ice cream truck ran out of stock. 🍦🙈 Perhaps he missed the memo that being kicked out of PES is just their way of saying “mate, it’s not you, it’s us.”

  9. Looks like Fico’s redefining leftism as “let’s have a party without the pesky principles”—who knew political soirées could be so exclusive? 🎉🤷‍♂️

  10. Seems like Fico’s pulled a classic Euro move: when in doubt, just blame the Constitution and wave the flag of “traditional values” while the rest of Europe rolls its eyes. 😂 Can’t wait for the next episode of “Who’s Left in Leftist?”

Looks like Fico’s taking ‘socialism’ to new heights—or should I say depths? 🤦‍♂️ Who knew abandoning leftist principles was part of the job description? Classic!

  12. Well, isn’t it charming to watch Fico redefine “traditional leftist principles” while being shown the door by PES? Must be a new brand of socialism—one that comes with a side of irony and a sprinkle of delusion. 😂

Fico’s got his finger on the pulse, hasn’t he? Maybe next he’ll tell us how to turn lead into gold while we’re at it! 😏

  14. Seems like Fico thinks he’s the last bastion of leftist values while the PES is just playing musical chairs with principles. Who needs tradition when you can just rename your party every few years, right? 😂

Looks like Fico’s doing a splendid job of redefining “leftist values” – must be a new trend to kick traditional principles to the curb! 🤔 Who knew abandoning your friends at PES could be so fashionable? 🥂

Looks like Fico’s version of ‘keeping it real’ just got him booted from the socialist dance floor—who knew sticking to your guns could be so out of fashion? 😂 #FashionablyExcluded

Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “true socialist values” quite like being booted from a party for disagreeing with its principles—truly a masterclass in modern politics, innit? 🤷‍♂️
