Berlin is recalling its ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations after he faced attacks from Georgia’s pro-Russia government, the German foreign ministry announced on Sunday.
“For many months, the Georgian leadership has been agitating against the EU, Germany, and also German Ambassador Fischer personally,” the Federal Foreign Office wrote on X, explaining the recall for consultations on future steps.
The situation in Georgia, where President Mikheil Kavelashvili, a far-right former footballer, assumed office last December amid allegations of a controversial election, will be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers on Monday.
