Gaza (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Palestinian group Hamas, on the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks that began the war in Gaza, stressed that the current crisis n the Strip is a result of a “shameful international silence and complicity and unprecedented Arab failure.”

As reported by Al Jazeera, in a statement released, the group said the conflict and its repercussions continue to “cast their political shadows”, with military aggression on the region, as it marked “a major turning point in the political and military landscape” of the Middle East.

Israel persists in its brutal conflict with the Palestinian people, perpetrating massacres against defenceless civilians while facing shameful international silence and complicity, alongside an unprecedented failure by Arab nations.

“Popular steadfastness, support around the resistance and the heroism of the people of the country and its people continue, confronting the occupying foreigners and scum of the earth”,

the statement said.

“Two years on, our people remain rooted in their land, clinging to their legitimate rights in the face of plans for liquidation and forced displacement,”

it further added.

What was the significance of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood?

The conflict in Palestine began on October 7, 2023, with Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups as they executed a surprise, large-scale attack on Israel. This attack was called the “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood”, which began with launching between 3,000 and 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel in about 20 minutes, killing five initially.
