Trump’s Approach to Putin Has Shifted from ‘Carrots’ to ‘Stick’, Says Finland’s President

His perspective contrasts with skepticism from officials in Brussels and politicians in European capitals, some of whom dismissed Trump’s claims that Ukraine could reclaim all its territory from Russia as empty rhetoric.

However, Stubb holds more credibility than most in interpreting Trump, having developed a rapport with the American president through their mutual love of golf. When asked what sort of approach Trump would take with Putin, Stubb humorously suggested a “driver.”

“President Trump is working, if not around the clock, then every day to try to end the war,” Stubb stated. “He has 14 clubs in his bag.”

The options range from stricter sanctions, including secondary sanctions, to increased tariffs and even making greater use of the U.S. military’s arsenal of weapons capable of reaching deep into Russian territory.

“You don’t need to read ‘The Art of [the] Deal’ to grasp how President Trump negotiates,” Stubb said. “It’s unconventional but quite results-oriented… If Putin continues to harm civilians in Ukraine after [meeting Trump for a summit in] Alaska on Aug. 15, President Trump is justifiably going to respond.”

Describing himself as “a realistic optimist,” Stubb encouraged Ukraine’s supporters to remain patient. “I have had the opportunity to work closely with President Trump over the past few months,” he noted. “Perhaps optimism is sometimes an intuition, but I believe the current facts on the ground indicate that we are moving in a better direction.”

Looks like Trump’s gone from playing golf with Putin to swinging a stick—who knew diplomacy could double as a sport? 🤷‍♂️ Just hope he doesn’t mistake a driver for a weapon next time!

So, Trump’s latest strategy is like switching from a gentle pat on the back to a good old-fashioned whack with a golf club? Classic move, mate! 😂🏌️‍♂️

Looks like when it comes to negotiations, Trump’s swinging with a driver instead of a putter—classic! 😂 I mean, who knew diplomacy could be as straightforward as a round of golf? 🏌️‍♂️

Oh, splendid! Who knew golf tips from a Finnish president could double as foreign policy advice? If only Trump’s diplomacy had a bit more swing and a lot less slice. 😏🏌️‍♂️

  5. Oh, brilliant! So now we’re taking golf lessons from Trump on how to negotiate with Putin? Next, they’ll be telling us that a good swing can solve international crises. 🏌️‍♂️💼

Looks like Trump’s taking his golf game to the geopolitical level—who knew a swing and a stick could change the course of history? 🏌️‍♂️ Just hoping he doesn’t turn the next summit into a golf tourney, we’ve had enough of those “putting” contests already! 😂

Seems like Trump’s strategy is just a round of golf away from a full-on game of whack-a-mole with Putin. 🎣 Let’s just hope the “driver” isn’t as rusty as his foreign policy! 😂

Oh, absolutely, nothing says “serious diplomacy” quite like swinging golf clubs and tossing around sanctions like they’re confetti at a wedding. 🏌️‍♂️🎉 Hope Putin’s ready for a “driver” that’ll really knock his socks off!

Just what we need, a golf-loving president negotiating world peace with a driver in hand. Who knew sticks and carrots could come in 14 different varieties? 😂🥴

Typical Trump, eh? Swapping golf tips for war tactics like it’s just another Sunday on the green. 🍀 “Driver” indeed, let’s hope he’s not aiming for a hole in one with a nuclear bunker instead.

So, Trump’s gone from playing nice with Putin to brandishing a golf club like it’s a magic wand. Let’s hope his “driver” is as effective as his negotiation skills – wouldn’t want to see him slice this one! 🏌️‍♂️😂

So, the key to world peace is a golf club and some good ol’ American optimism? Brilliant strategy, mate. I guess we’ll just be waiting for the “driver” to really drive home those sanctions! 🏌️‍♂️🇺🇸

Nothing like a little golf diplomacy to charm a dictator, eh? I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see if Trump’s 14 clubs can outdrive Putin’s nuclear ambitions. ⛳️🇷🇺

  14. So, Trump’s got a golf bag with 14 clubs and a strategy to deal with Putin—brilliant! If only diplomacy came with a few mulligans, eh? 😂
