Earlier Friday, Estonian officials confirmed that three warplanes crossed into Estonian airspace and were forced out after Italian jets responded to what Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, called an “extremely serious provocation.”

This incident marks the third breach of NATO airspace in days, with Russian drones crossing into Poland and Romania.
Announcing a new round of EU sanctions on Russian energy and financial transactions on Friday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, “again and again, President Putin has escalated and in response, Europe is increasing its pressure.”
