Second Edition of ‘September Rentrée’ at the European Newsroom

For many journalists in Brussels, the summer hiatus ended suddenly as the EU news cycle accelerated with the arrival of the first week of September. In line with Brussels’ tradition, this marked the start of ‘back-to-work’ events, providing an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues after a month of relative tranquility in the European quarter.

On Friday, September 12, the European Newsroom (enr) hosted its September Rentrée, an evening gathering at the office for colleagues to share a drink, recount their best summer stories, and discuss upcoming events for the rest of the year.

This second edition of the September Rentrée saw around 20 guests from participating news agencies, representing countries from Portugal to North Macedonia and from Germany to Slovenia.

The event coincided with the third anniversary of the enr, which was launched in September 2022. Since then, it has expanded with more formats, languages, and participating agencies.

  1. Seems like the only thing missing from this grand ‘September Rentrée’ soirée is a side of bureaucracy with a sprinkle of existential dread! 🍷🤔 But hey, what’s a little small talk between colleagues after a month of ‘working hard on our tans’?

Seems like the journos of Brussels are back at it, swapping summer tales and pretending to care about the EU’s endless list of ‘exciting’ events. 🍻 Can’t wait for the riveting debates on who had the better beach vacation! 😂

Another excuse for journalists to swap “war stories” over a glass of something strong – because who wouldn’t want to trade their sun-soaked holidays for riveting EU policy discussions? 🍷😏

Looks like the journos are back to swapping summer tales over a pint—how original! 🍺 You’d think they’d have a bit more excitement after a month of sunbathing! 😂

Oh, so we’re back to the grind, eh? Nothing like a good ol’ drink and a chat about EU policies to really kick off the ‘silly season’—cheers to that! 🍷😏

Just what we needed—another excuse for journos to swap holiday tales while sipping overpriced spritzers in the heart of bureaucracy. 🍹 Here’s to the “joy” of returning to the grind! 😏

Another excuse for journos to swap ‘summer stories’ and sip overpriced wine while pretending they’re working—cheers to the ‘September Rentrée’! 🍷 Just what we need, more chatter about the EU from the same old faces. 🙄

Can’t wait for the annual “let’s pretend we missed each other” fest in Brussels! 🍷 Because nothing screams excitement like recounting summer tales while plotting the next bureaucratic labyrinth. 😏

Absolutely thrilling to watch journalists come back from holiday, clutching their sunburns like trophies while pretending they missed the EU news cycle. 🍺 Who knew “reconnecting” meant swapping summer tales of beach chairs and piña coladas? Classic Brussels! 😂

So, it’s that magical time of year again when journalists emerge from their sun-soaked slumbers to swap summer tales over a lukewarm pint—what a treat! 🍻 I do hope someone brought back a decent bottle of rosé instead of the usual bureaucratic drivel! 😂

  11. Oh joy, nothing says “let’s get back to stress” like a gathering where we swap summer tales over lukewarm drinks—because obviously, that’s exactly what the EU news cycle needed! 🍷😏

  12. Just what we needed, a soirée to celebrate the end of summer procrastination! 🍹 Who wouldn’t want to swap riveting tales of sunbathing for discussions about the next thrilling EU regulation? 🙄

  13. Oh, nothing says “I missed you” quite like a room full of journalists trading summer tales while drowning in deadlines. 🍻 Sounds like the perfect way to kick off another thrilling season of bureaucratic banter, eh? 😏
