
Brussels – European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho stated on Tuesday that “it is the sovereign right of the EU and its member states to regulate economic activities on our territory in accordance with our democratic values.”
The EU also “firmly rejected” claims that American companies were being intentionally targeted by these digital regulations.
The American president criticized countries and organizations regulating the tech industry on Monday, threatening them with tariffs and export limitations.
In response, the Commission labeled the accusations of censorship from the Trump administration and tech companies as “totally erroneous.”
Meanwhile, the British government defended its 2% digital services tax (DST) on Tuesday, describing it as “fair and proportionate” in a statement requested by AFP. According to British media, the established thresholds mean that most of the revenue generated comes from major American corporations like Amazon, Google, Apple, and Meta.
