Italy detains Ukrainian suspect in Nord Stream sabotage case, German authorities report

Investigators suspect that a group used a yacht, rented from Rostock, Germany, under false identities to transport explosives. Traces of the military-grade explosive octogen were found on the yacht.

German authorities believe Serhii K. was heavily involved in coordinating the attack. He is charged with causing an explosion, committing anti-constitutional sabotage, and destroying infrastructure.

This arrest represents significant progress in a complex investigation involving several countries. Sweden and Denmark closed their investigations without naming suspects earlier this year, while Germany focused on a small team of divers and support staff believed responsible for the mission. Some Western official reports suggest potential links to Ukrainian networks, though Kyiv denies any involvement.

The suspect will be sent to Germany to appear before a federal judge in Karlsruhe.
