Bulgaria Strongly Supports Ukraine’s European Integration, Says Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in Discussion with Ukrainian Counterpart

SOFIA/KYIV – Bulgaria strongly supports Ukraine’s European integration based on its merits and is prepared to assist Kyiv by sharing valuable insights from its own integration experience. This was expressed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov during a video conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, as reported by the Council of Ministers’ press service.

Prime Minister Zhelyazkov praised Ukraine’s commitment to essential reforms tied to the European Union (EU), especially in light of current geopolitical security challenges and ongoing Russian aggression.

Bulgaria is convinced that Ukraine’s future lies within the EU, and that European integration will ensure prosperity for the entire region, Zhelyazkov emphasized.

Bulgaria supports initiating the first negotiation cluster, with Zhelyazkov underscoring the significance of Ukraine’s action plan concerning national minorities as a vital element for opening the first negotiation chapter.

Zhelyazkov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s steadfast support for Ukraine amid the war, expressing the Bulgarian government’s endorsement of all efforts aimed at reaching a durable solution, including the commitment from U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to halt Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

Negotiations should adhere to principles of justice, sovereignty, and security guarantees, ensuring peace as a foundation for long-term stability, security, and prosperity for both Europe and Ukraine, Zhelyazkov stated.

He highlighted Bulgaria’s readiness to take part in Ukraine’s post-war recovery, reconstruction, and reform efforts. The meeting also covered topics related to regional energy security and transportation connectivity.

On August 19, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov participated in a video conference with the heads of state and government of EU member states to discuss the outcomes of the Washington meeting regarding Ukraine. Security guarantees for Ukraine should encompass sustainable support from both European and Euro-Atlantic partners, Zhelyazkov stated. He further asserted that Bulgaria, alongside EU partners and NATO allies, is prepared to help establish a framework for a just and lasting peace. (20.08.2025)

Typical of Bulgaria, always ready to lend a hand—let’s just hope they don’t offer “valuable insights” on how to dodge potholes on the way to EU membership. 😂

Just what we needed—a masterclass on integration from Bulgaria, the country that once struggled to integrate electricity into its grid. But hey, at least they’re sharing their “valuable insights” with Ukraine, because nothing says success like a game of “who did it worse?” 🇧🇬🤷‍♂️

Blimey, who knew Bulgaria was the new expert on European integration? Maybe they can write a bestseller on “How to Join the Club – A Guide for Overachievers” 📚✨!

Just what we needed, another country telling us how to integrate into Europe like it’s some sort of IKEA assembly manual. 🛠️ At this rate, might as well hand out diplomas for “expertise in integration” while we’re at it! 😂

Seems like Bulgaria’s got their eyes on the prize—grooming Ukraine for EU membership like it’s some posh debutante ball. Who knew a video call could be the secret recipe for world peace? 😂

Imagine Bulgaria handing out integration tips like a barista serving free samples – generous, but let’s hope the espresso doesn’t taste like yesterday’s news! ☕️🇧🇬

Just what we needed, another Prime Minister promising to share “valuable insights” – like handing out umbrellas in a rainstorm. 🍻 Let’s hope Ukraine’s not taking notes on how to navigate bureaucracy as well!

Oh, fantastic! Bulgaria’s ready to share its “wealth” of integration experiences—guess we’ll all be sipping rakia and navigating bureaucracy like pros in no time. 🍷🇧🇬
