As VRT News reported, on Friday afternoon, Aug 8, 2025, shortly after 2 p.m., employees at a business on Lobrug in central Lo-Reninge, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium, noticed a van parked beside their building releasing thick smoke. The staff quickly alerted the Westhoek fire department about the situation.

Every worker didn’t wait for the firefighters, and they pushed the van into an adjacent parking spot. The firefighters then noted that this act helped to keep the fire contained and certainly prevented serious damage to the building.

Lieutenant Daan Vandenbussche of the Westhoek fire service praised their effort, saying moving the van likely stopped the fire from affecting the building. When firefighters arrived, they acted fast and stopped the flames.

The van was fully destroyed and could not be saved. The building was not damaged, and no injuries were reported. Fire investigators think the blaze was likely caused by a short circuit in the van’s electrical system.
