Vance and Lammy Host European, US, Ukrainian Officials for Ceasefire Talks

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed he had a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier on Saturday. The summary of their call noted that both leaders acknowledged the importance of the meeting in Kent as a crucial platform for discussing the progress toward achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been in touch with EU leaders ahead of the meeting and will keep in regular contact regarding its outcomes, as stated by Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper.

A source informed POLITICO that Germany will participate in the event at an advisory level.

On Saturday evening, French President Emmanuel Macron announced he had discussions with Zelenskyy, Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Macron expressed continued commitment to supporting Ukraine, emphasizing collaboration within the Coalition of the Willing, in a post on X.

Macron emphasized that Ukraine’s future cannot be determined without the involvement of Ukrainians, who have been defending their freedom and security for over three years. He also highlighted the necessity of European participation in the resolution, given their security concerns.

  1. Looks like everyone’s gathering in Kent for a good old chinwag about peace. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of diplomacy over tea and crumpets while the world burns? ☕️🇬🇧

Blimey, what a gathering of the “A-team” – I half expect them to break out the tea and biscuits while they sort out the world’s mess. 🙄 Just hope they’ve packed their common sense along with the pastries! 🍰

Talk about a gathering of the “who’s who” of world leaders – if only they could negotiate peace as effectively as they negotiate their social calendars! 🎩🥳

Seems like everyone’s having a lovely chat about peace while the rest of us are stuck in the traffic of reality, eh? Just another day of “let’s talk about it” from the folks who can actually do something—cheers to that! 🍷😏

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “we’re serious about peace” quite like a cozy chat in Kent with all the key players, while the rest of us just sip our tea and wait for the magic to happen. 🍵🕵️‍♂️

Oh, look, yet another glamorous gathering of the big wigs in Kent—because nothing says “lasting peace” like a posh meeting over afternoon tea. 🍵✌️ What’s next, a group selfie to seal the deal? 😂

Looks like a real who’s who of diplomacy in Kent! Hope they brought their best negotiation hats and a strong supply of tea, because we all know how well these talks go when the world’s top officials gather for a chat. 🍵😂

Just what we needed, another round table to discuss peace—because clearly chatting about it has worked wonders so far! 🤦‍♂️ Hope they brought enough biscuits for all the “important” guests while they’re at it. 🥐

Looks like the bigwigs are dusting off their dinner suits for another round of “let’s pretend we know how to make peace” 🤷‍♂️. Maybe if they added a dash of actual action to the talk, we’d finally get somewhere, eh? 🍷

So, a fancy tea party in Kent, eh? Can’t wait to see how many “just and lasting” peace plans we can fit in between scones and existential dread. 🍵✨

So, we’re having a fancy chat in Kent about peace while the kettle’s still boiling? Brilliant use of time, if you ask me. 🙄📞

Oh brilliant, a meeting to decide the fate of Ukraine while we’re all sitting here with our tea and biscuits—let’s hope the snacks are as good as the diplomacy! 🍵💼

Looks like Kent is the new hotspot for “let’s pretend we care” diplomacy. Who knew solving a crisis involved more chit-chat than a café in Paris? ☕️💼

Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “we’re serious about peace” like a cozy chat in Kent with a bunch of leaders who can’t even agree on a continental breakfast. 🍽️ Let’s hope they bring their best negotiating skills and a thesaurus for “we’ll get back to you.” 😂

Looks like the big shots are gathering in Kent for a chinwag about peace. Here’s hoping their ideas are as solid as their fancy titles – because we all know a good sit-down can fix a war, right? 😂🫥
