Starmer Leads Outcry Over Israel’s Escalation in Gaza War

Merz expressed concerns that Israel’s heightened actions in Gaza make achieving objectives like hostage release and Hamas disarmament “increasingly difficult,” according to a statement.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares criticized Israel’s military escalation in Gaza in a post on X, stating that it would lead to “further destruction and suffering.”

Israel’s strategy involves disarming Hamas, returning hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, demilitarizing Gaza under Israeli control, and establishing a new administration excluding Hamas and the Palestinian Authority as outlined by the Israeli government.

Before a security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu confirmed in a Fox News interview plans for Israel to take full control of Gaza, though officially the plan only cites Gaza City.

In the interview, Netanyahu explained plans to remove Hamas, liberate the population, and introduce civilian governance: “We intend to, in order to assure our security.”

He added, “We don’t intend to keep it. We aim to establish a security perimeter and transfer it to Arab forces that will manage effectively and improve life for Gazans.”

Yair Lapid, Israel’s opposition leader and former prime minister, criticized the security cabinet’s decision as a “disaster” in an post on X, saying it aligns with Hamas’ agenda, leaving Israel “without a goal” in a useless occupation.

Chris Lunday contributed reporting.

Blimey, it’s like watching a game of chess played by toddlers—lots of pieces moving but no one knows the rules! 🤦‍♂️ Who knew “let’s make Gaza great again” would be the latest slogan in the never-ending saga?

Looks like our dear leaders have cracked the case of the century: to secure peace, just intensify the chaos! Classic European strategy—if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it, right? 😂

  8. Oh joy, yet another round of “let’s solve everything with airstrikes” – I’m sure the locals will just love the new ‘security perimeter’! 😏
