What keeps the Zomer in Linden festival true to its community roots? What makes the Zomer in Linden festival a lasting community tradition?

As VRT News reported, the 11th edition of the Zomer in Linden festival begins tonight, Aug 8, 2025, in Lubbeek, in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, marking 3 days of summer events. This edition features well-known performers such as Belgian singer Willy Sommers, Dutch artist Dotan, who is known for his hit “Home,” and popular bands like Sylver and Zornik.

According to officials, the Zomer in Linden festival faced tough years with bad weather, the coronavirus, and other problems. Because of this, the organisers weren’t sure if the festival could keep growing.

They even thought about making the event smaller this year. Fien Vandercruyssen, one of the main organisers, said they decided not to cut the whole festival but to make the main stage a bit smaller. Fien Vandercruyssen says everyone is very excited for the event. The temperature is expected to be near 30°C over the weekend. For the first time, the festival will serve cocktails.

“The VIP area, the bar, and all the other elements have remained the same,”

Says Vandercruyssen.

“They always worked very well, so we didn’t want to change the concept.”

Zomer in Linden started many years ago as a small event organised by members of the Sint-Kwinten scout group in Lubbeek. It began as a local gathering meant to bring the community together during the summer.

Over time, the festival grew in size and popularity, attracting more visitors and bigger musical acts. To manage this growth, a non-profit organisation took over its management, but the team is still made up of current and former scout leaders.

Looks like Lubbeek is ready to show off its finest summer tradition—because nothing says “community spirit” quite like a smaller main stage and a cocktail in hand! 🍹 Who needs a grand festival when you’ve got Willy Sommers and the thrill of dodging bad weather? 🤷‍♂️

  2. Oh joy, another festival where we can watch artists we’ve heard of while sipping overpriced cocktails and pretending the weather will cooperate. 🍹 Let’s hope the main stage being smaller means the fun will be bigger!

Oh great, another festival where we can enjoy cocktails and pretend to be excited about Willy Sommers while dodging the rain—just what Lubbeek needs! 🍹🎶

Guess the festival’s motto is “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”—or maybe “let’s just make the stage a tad smaller and hope for the best!” 🍹🤷‍♂️

Another year, another festival in Lubbeek—because who wouldn’t want to celebrate community spirit with cocktails and a slightly smaller main stage? 🍹🎶 Just what the doctor ordered for a weekend of “excitement” under the Belgian sun! 😂

Looks like Lubbeek is really pulling out all the stops this year with a slightly smaller main stage—how avant-garde! 🍹 Who knew community spirit could also mean managing expectations, eh?
