Washington (dpa) – Following the directive of US President Donald Trump, new tariffs on imports from the EU and various other nations will begin on Thursday. US officials state that this regulation will take effect from midnight (Eastern Time), which translates to 6:00 AM in Germany. However, the EU Commission asserts that the start date for the 15 percent tariff on most EU imports to the US is set for August 8.
The new tariffs, which vary in amount, will impact imports from approximately 70 countries, including those in the European Union. Recently, the EU and the US reached an agreement regarding their trade dispute. In addition to the 15 percent tariff, the EU has committed to making considerable investments in the US, although coordination on the specific details of these investments is still pending.
Different tariffs will apply to countries not included in the list released last week for tariffs effective August 7. The US is also engaged in separate negotiations with China and Mexico. Furthermore, Trump has threatened additional tariffs against nations or has already imposed them due to their business activities with Russia, which he claims indirectly supports the Kremlin’s aggression in Ukraine.
