The document stated that von der Leyen’s mobile phone has been replaced multiple times since then, with data not being transferred.
In May, the EU’s lower tier General Court ruled that the EU executive erred in not releasing the texts. Politico revealed this week that the Commission will not be appealing the decision in the top tier court.
The case became significant for transparency activists, highlighting accountability issues in von der Leyen’s Commission, as well as for individuals opposing the vaccine.
In early July, von der Leyen successfully overcame a no-confidence vote in the European Parliament concerning the case, which was initiated by right-wing Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea.
