On Wednesday, the European Commission unveiled its much-anticipated proposal for the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), outlining the EU’s long-term budget for the 2028-2034 period.
The following day, the European Newsroom (enr) hosted the President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), Kata Tüttő, to discuss her views on the proposal and its implications for Europe’s regions and cities.
In the interview, the Budapest-based Hungarian politician expressed concern that the plan “cracks the backbone of cohesion policy,” referring to it as “the monster that swallowed cohesion,” highlighting her dissatisfaction with the insufficient attention given to the interests of regions and cities.
A selection of reporters from the enr agencies ANP, dpa, Tanjug, and ANSA, along with a journalist from the independent Agence Europe, participated in the discussions at the enr’s offices located in the European quarter. As per usual, the enr team distributed the complete interview to all contributing agencies involved in the project.

The CoR serves as an EU advisory body representing local and regional authorities throughout the bloc, consisting of 329 members and their alternates elected at local or regional levels.
The CoR elects a president from among its members for a term of two and a half years. Kata Tüttő has held the presidency since February 2025.
