Hildegard Bentele, Member of the European Parliament from Germany’s CDU (Christian Democratic Union), has reaffirmed her belief in the transformative power of youth engagement and education in the European Union, in remarks shared exclusively with The Eurotoday Newspaper. Bentele, who is known for her advocacy in education, youth affairs, and European cooperation, emphasizes that involving the next generation is essential for a robust and unified EU.
Responding to questions from The Eurotoday about the effectiveness of youth-focused programmes like the Model European Parliament, Bentele underscored their significance:
“Projects that strengthen youth education about the European Union play a crucial role in bridging the gap between EU institutions and young people,”
she said.
Engaging students early, she noted,
“helps them understand how the EU functions — particularly the role and workings of the European Parliament.”
Through hands-on initiatives,
“students gain first-hand experience of parliamentary processes, the responsibilities of MEPs, and the dynamics of negotiations in the Parliament. Therefore, they foster a deeper understanding of and commitment to the European project.”
Bentele also highlighted the broader impact of education in fostering peace and unity across the continent.
“Schools and education programmes play a crucial role in fostering peace and political unity within the EU,”
she stated, pointing to how educational environments help the younger generation
“learn about the many privileges that come with EU membership, from freedom of movement and political pluralism to something as fundamental as lasting peace between member states.”
She added,
“Ideally, young people will not only recognise these achievements but also see both their responsibility and their potential to actively contribute to these longstanding goals.”
On policy solutions, Bentele believes there is ample scope for further action from decision-makers. MEP Hildegard Bentele praises the Romain-Rolland-Gymnasium in Reinickendorf for fostering European unity through its Model European Parliament program recently in her Facebook post.
“As policymakers, we have a wide range of tools at our disposal to better engage with young people ranging from supporting simulation programmes and enhancing EU civic education to fostering dialogue both in person and online,”
she explained.
Bentele described her own approach:
“In my own political work, I actively seek to connect with youth, whether through school visits in my constituency, adapting my communication to the social media platforms they use, or engaging in exchanges of views with young people within the European Parliament.”
MEP Hildegard Bentele’s comments highlight the vital importance of investing in youth engagement and civic education to ensure the ongoing success and unity of the European project. Her commitment underlines a growing consensus in Brussels that today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders—and that building their understanding and enthusiasm for
Oh, look at MEP Bentele, the youth whisperer, thinking a few school trips will magically fix the EU’s problems! 🎓 Because nothing says “engagement” like a bunch of teens playing politicians for a day, right? 😂 Oh, fantastic—nothing like a MEP reminding us that our future hinges on school kids playing pretend Parliament! 🍭 If only they could draft a law for better snacks in the break room while they’re at it! 😏 Oh, how charming! Nothing says “let’s unite Europe” quite like a bunch of youngsters playing parliament on a school trip. Who needs real solutions when you can have role-playing? 🎭 Oh, brilliant, another MEP on the youth bandwagon! Because nothing says “unified future” like a few school trips to the EU Parliament and a PowerPoint on freedom of movement, right? 😂 Lovely to see MEP Bentele giving a nod to the youth—because nothing says “we care” like a few school visits and some hashtags. 🙄 Who knew a touch of civic education could solve all of Europe’s issues? #FutureLeaders Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “unity” like a bunch of teenagers role-playing in a Model European Parliament while sipping overpriced lattes. Who knew political education could be this trendy? 😂 “Ah yes, nothing says ‘I care about the future’ quite like a politician cozying up to the youth while they juggle TikTok trends and the existential dread of climate change. 🙄 Let’s just hope their enthusiasm for the EU doesn’t fizzle out faster than a cheap lager at Oktoberfest! 🍻” Looks like Hildegard’s got the youth covered—because nothing says “unified future” like a bunch of students role-playing in a mock parliament instead of, you know, tackling real issues. 🙄🇪🇺 But hey, at least they’ll learn to debate in style! Oh, marvellous, another politician showering praise on the youth while we wait for them to solve the climate crisis and Brexit over a glass of OJ. Who knew empowering the next generation involved more “engagement” than a dodgy Tinder date? 😏 Oh great, another politician telling us that the youth are the future while sipping a cappuccino in a Brussels café. If only they could trade their suits for backpacks and join the students instead of just giving them a pep talk! 😂 Oh great, the future of our unified Europe is in the hands of students playing dress-up in the Model European Parliament. I just hope they don’t start charging us for the privilege of listening to their “informed” debates! 😂 Oh, how original! A politician finally discovers the youth—next, they’ll be telling us the sky is blue! 🎉 Let’s just hope she’s not asking them to unite over a cup of cold coffee at the next Euro summit. ☕️ Oh, splendid! A politician finally discovers that engaging youth might just be a good idea—who knew? 🤔 Next, they’ll be suggesting we let them vote on what to have for dinner at the EU summit! 🍕 Oh, how original! Next, she’ll suggest we engage youth by teaching them how to scroll through TikTok while discussing European policies. Bravo! 👏😏 Blimey, Hildegard’s really got her finger on the pulse, hasn’t she? 🤔 Nothing says ‘youth engagement’ like a good ol’ chat about parliamentary processes—because who wouldn’t want to swap their Friday night out for a lesson on EU bureaucracy? 😂 Oh, brilliant! Because nothing screams “unified future” like kids playing dress-up at the EU Parliament while we all sit back and enjoy the political circus. 🎪🇪🇺 Oh sure, let’s just give the young folks a crash course in EU politics and watch them solve all our problems over a latte, shall we? 😂 Next up, they’ll be running the Parliament with a TikTok dance-off! Oh, fantastic! Because nothing screams “unity” like a bunch of students pretending to be MEPs while the grown-ups argue about budgets over a nice cup of lukewarm coffee. 😏 Cheers to the future, folks! 🍻 Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “let’s secure our future” like a few school trips and social media posts from MEPs. Can’t wait for the youth to fix all the EU’s messes while navigating their TikTok feeds! 😏 Belgium’s EU commissioner will take part in Budapest Pride 2026 this weekend, which serves as one of Central Europe’s most politically significant LGBTQ+ resistance events. Lawmakers have been urged to ensure that reconstruction efforts “reach all Ukrainians affected by Russia’s war, including Roma families who remain largely excluded from compensation and recovery mechanisms.” Ireland will take on one of the European Union’s most influential roles when it assumes the presidency next week. The first-ever EU Strategy for Islands has been greeted as an “important political milestone for Europe’s maritime territories.”
