Canada and EU Sign Defense Pact

Canada and European NATO countries are pledging to significantly increase defense spending, a move to be confirmed by alliance leaders at their Hague summit starting Wednesday.

“NATO is our collective defense cornerstone, but this partnership enhances our readiness, enabling smarter and increased investments,” said European Council President António Costa at a summit press conference.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the partnership will enhance Canada’s role in Europe’s defense framework. “This is just the beginning,” she remarked.

“It will benefit our industries, our people, and the transatlantic security collaboration.”

Von der Leyen mentioned that Carney was among friends in Brussels.

According to a joint statement released Monday, Ottawa will collaborate with Brussels on a bilateral deal tied to the EU’s €150 billion Security Action for Europe (SAFE) plan. This program, for EU states and close allies, provides loans for weapon purchases and allows joint procurements.

So, Canada’s joining the European defense party, eh? I guess the maple syrup isn’t the only thing they’re bringing to the table now. 🍁💰

Oh joy, more money for defense—because clearly, we haven’t been spending enough on that already. Can’t wait to see how this ‘collaboration’ turns into a bidding war for who can make the flashiest tanks. 😂💸

Just what Europe needed, a Canadian buddy to help foot the bill for our fancy defense upgrades. Nothing says “we’ve got it all sorted” like doubling down on military spending while trying to keep a straight face! 😂💰

So, let me get this straight: Canada is now our defense buddy, eh? Guess we can finally stop sending them our spare hockey sticks for security! 😂

Looks like Canada’s finally decided that being a “friendly neighbor” means investing in a bit of muscle, instead of just maple syrup and hockey. I can’t wait to see how this “partnership” unfolds at the Hague – talk about a recipe for a diplomatic potluck! 🍁💰

Oh, brilliant! Because what Europe really needs is more defence spending and paperwork while the world burns. 💸 Can’t wait for the next summit where they’ll likely discuss who gets the biggest slice of the military budget pie! 🍰

A defense pact with Canada? Brilliant! Just what we need—more opportunities to spend our hard-earned euros on fancy toys while they get to play in our sandbox. 🤷‍♂️💸

  14. Oh great, just what we need—more money funneled into defense while our coffee shops are running out of oat milk. ☕️💸 I suppose this means Canada will finally be ready to defend itself against… what, exactly? The occasional moose? 🦌
