Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced his imminent trip to Moscow for urgent talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin following recent U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.
Araghchi highlighted the “strategic partnership” between Iran and Russia, stating that the countries regularly consult and coordinate their positions, as reported in Istanbul.
Russia, a close ally of Iran, has received military drones from Tehran for use in Ukraine, while helping Iran with its civilian nuclear program. The Kremlin also maintains positive relations with Israel.
Israel had been urging the U.S. to take military action against Iran’s nuclear program, increasing its lobbying efforts after conducting unilateral strikes earlier this month.
In the ongoing discussions about Iran’s nuclear program, Russia has voiced strong opposition to any regime change in Iran. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described such discussions as “unacceptable” and warned that assassinating Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could lead to increased extremism in the country.
