EU Excludes Chinese Firms from Major Public Contracts for Medical Equipment

Brussels – In response to limitations imposed on European businesses in China, the Commission intends to prohibit Chinese firms from supplying health products to public entities, including masks, bandages, machines, and robots, which constitute a market valued at 150 billion euros.

The initiative “seeks to prompt China to eliminate its bias against EU-manufactured medical devices,” as stated in an announcement.

The European Union asserts that its public contracts are accessible to 95% of global competitors, while European firms have almost no access to public procurement in China.

Following a year of unproductive discussions, the trade policy management Commission has resolved to take action.

“Our aim is to secure equitable conditions for EU businesses. We remain open to dialogue with China to address these matters,” highlighted European Commissioner for Trade, Maros Sefcovic.
