Leaked Audio Reveals Tusk’s Involvement in Polish Politics While Leading EU Institution

The Civic Coalition lost the parliamentary election in 2019, and Schetyna chose not to seek reelection as party leader in 2020.

During the same conversation, Giertych mentioned he had recommended promoting Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska within the party. Tusk agreed, saying it was an excellent idea. Kidawa-Błońska was ultimately selected as the party’s candidate for prime minister in the 2019 election.

Intense Reaction

Giertych claims the conversation was captured through “an illegal operation” using Israel’s Pegasus spyware, which the previous administration allegedly deployed against political adversaries.

He stated on X that illegally recording conversations between a lawyer and clients, failing to destroy them, removing copies from the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau, distributing them to the media, and publishing them constitute serious crimes, with perpetrators to face consequences.

The current government, led by the Civic Coalition, has initiated an investigation into whether PiS officials abused Pegasus software for political spying. As of Tuesday afternoon, Tusk has not made any public comments regarding the recordings.
