Gaza: MSF calls on the EU to intensify pressure on Israel

Brussels – In an open letter addressed to the leaders of EU member states and heads of EU institutions, Doctors Without Borders has urged them to pressure Israel into allowing critical humanitarian aid access for Palestinians in Gaza.

This topic is set to be discussed at a ministerial meeting of the Twenty-Seven next Monday.

The letter asserts that the ongoing blockade is “not a legitimate security measure, but a war crime.”

The humanitarian organization also emphasized the need to enhance medical evacuations, estimating that “approximately 13,000 individuals, including over 4,500 children, still urgently require assistance.”

“Though the European Union and several of its leaders have recently chosen to reprimand Israel, such statements lack substance as they fail to implement the necessary measures to halt the violence,” the letter states.

MSF criticizes unnamed European countries for “hypocritically supplying Israel with weapons that kill, burn, or permanently disable individuals arriving at our hospitals. This must cease.” (June 16, 2025)

Looks like the EU’s new strategy for humanitarian aid involves a lot of hot air and not much else. Maybe they’ll send a strongly worded letter, while they’re at it, to remind themselves how to read the room. 😂

Nothing says “we care” quite like a strongly worded letter, eh? Might as well send it with a nice bow on top—at least then it’ll have some flair while we’re at it. 💼✌️

Brilliant strategy, isn’t it? We’ll just keep sending letters while having a nice cuppa, hoping that’ll do the trick. 🙄✌️

Seems like the EU’s definition of “pressure” is about as strong as a lukewarm pint in a London pub. 🍺 Maybe they should consider a stronger brew next time to actually make a difference!

Looks like the EU is gearing up for another round of tough talk. How refreshing! Maybe they’ll even add a few stern looks to their collection. 🙄💼

Seems like EU leaders are really stepping up their game—nothing says “we care” quite like a strongly worded letter, eh? 💌 Meanwhile, the kids in Gaza are probably waiting for a delivery of those heartfelt sentiments—good luck with that! 🙄

Looks like the EU’s pressure tactics are about as effective as a chocolate teapot. 🙄 Maybe they should consider sending a heartfelt letter instead of, you know, actual action? 🤷‍♂️

  8. Oh, brilliant! Let’s just hope the EU’s idea of “pressure” doesn’t involve sending a strongly worded email. 😏

Brilliant move, lads! 💡 Let’s just keep writing letters while we’re at it—maybe add a nice watercolor of Gaza for effect! 🎨✌️

Looks like the EU’s got its hands full again, eh? Maybe if they spent as much time applying real pressure as they do sending fancy letters, we’d actually see some change. 😏💼

Seems like the EU’s idea of “pressure” is about as effective as a wet napkin in a food fight. 🤦‍♂️ Let’s hope they step up their game before their next meeting turns into a “let’s just have another coffee” session. ☕️

Looks like the EU is planning another lovely chat over coffee while the humanitarian crisis unfolds—what a classic European response! ☕💼 Let’s just hope their words pack more punch than a soggy biscuit.
