Begijnendijk (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Two new landscape walks were officially opened in Tremelo and Begijnendijk, offering scenic routes between the Demer and Dijle for locals and visitors.
These are the “Betekomse Beemdenwandeling” in Begijnendijk and the “Landschapswandeling Balenberg” in Tremelo.
In both locations, hikers have the option of a long or short loop along some of Noord-Hageland’s most picturesque locations.
Regional Landscape North Hageland, Tourism Flemish Brabant, and the Belgium municipalities of Tremelo, Begijnendijk, Rotselaar, and Keerbergen are blank”>partners in the project.
“This collaboration illustrates the shared ambition to invest in high-quality, sustainable recreation in the region,”
says Yves Beken, chairman of Regional Landscape North Hageland.
Hikers on the ‘Landschapswandeling Balenberg’ have the option of starting and finishing at the Sven Nys Cycling Center for either the 2.4-kilometer or 11.7-kilometer loop. The 8.8- and 10.2-kilometer walking circles that make up the “Betekomse Beemdenwandeling” begin and end at the Sint-Laurentiuskerk in Betekom.
Informational leaflets that share tales about the environment, wildlife, and cultural legacy also accompany the hikes.
“There are rest points and natural play areas along the way, such as a picnic bench, a stilt course or a play element to jump as far as animals”,
says alderman Bertrand Eraly (CD&V) of Tremelo.
Nearly 59,000 euros was spent on the landscape walks in total. The Flemish Rural Development Programme pays about 38,000 euros of this, with the four participating municipalities covering the remaining amount.
How might these new walks attract more hikers to Tremolo and Begijnendijk?
Families, casual walkers, and more experienced hikers can all enjoy the walks since they offer both short and long loops, which accommodate hikers with varying fitness levels and time constraints.
Emphasizing the meadows, forests, and rural areas of Noord-Hageland makes it a desirable location for those who enjoy the outdoors and are looking for serene and lovely paths.
Routes that begin close to well-known locations, such as the Sven Nys Cycling Center, enhance the hiking experience and appeal to a wider range of hikers by adding cultural and athletic attractions.
These walks support outdoor recreation and eco-friendly travel, which is in line with the public’s increased interest in wellness and outdoor pursuits.

Fancy a stroll through nature? Because nothing says “let’s get fit” like a 11.7-kilometer hike while dodging the occasional cow and pretending to care about the environmental tales 😏🍃!

New nature walks, eh? Because nothing says “high-quality recreation” like a stroll through the same ol’ fields and forests we’ve been “investing” in for centuries. 🌳🏃♂️
