WFP Depletes Food Supplies in Gaza

Here’s a rewritten version of the article you shared:

On Friday, the World Food Programme (WFP) announced that it had depleted its remaining food reserves in Gaza, delivering the final supplies to community kitchens that serve hot meals. These kitchens are expected to run out of food completely within days.

The UN agency warned that without immediate intervention, it might have to suspend vital food assistance for families already facing extreme hardship.

The situation in the Gaza Strip has once again crossed a critical threshold: people have exhausted nearly all means of survival, and whatever progress was achieved during the brief ceasefire has now collapsed,” WFP said.

These community kitchens have been the mainstay of food aid in Gaza for weeks, though even at their peak, they only managed to assist approximately half the population, meeting just a quarter of their daily nutritional needs.

WFP had also been supporting 25 bakeries, but all of them shuttered on 31 March after supplies of wheat flour and cooking fuel were depleted. Distribution of food parcels — each intended to feed a family for two weeks — also ceased around the same time as stocks ran dry.

For over seven weeks, no humanitarian or commercial goods have been able to enter Gaza, as border crossings remain closed — the longest blockade Gaza has faced, according to WFP. This has further weakened an already fragile market and decimated the local food systems.

Food prices have surged by an alarming 1,400 percent compared to prices during the earlier ceasefire, and basic food items are critically scarce. Malnutrition is becoming an urgent threat, especially among young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, WFP and partners have more than 116,000 metric tonnes of food assistance — enough to sustain a million people for up to four months — ready to be transported into Gaza as soon as the borders reopen.

“WFP calls on all parties to place the humanitarian needs of civilians first, urgently allow aid to enter Gaza, and uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law,” the agency pleaded.

Escalating Israeli Attacks

The UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory issued a statement Friday highlighting the worsening humanitarian situation in both Gaza and the West Bank.

It reported that over the past 18 months, Gaza’s 2.2 million residents have endured relentless violence, severe obstacles to receiving humanitarian aid, and the widespread destruction of essential infrastructure.

“Following the collapse of the ceasefire, and most notably over the past week, Israeli assaults on Palestinians have intensified, leading to numerous civilian deaths and the further decimation of Gaza’s remaining infrastructure,” the statement read.

Ongoing displacement orders and Israel’s renewed total blockade of Gaza have even further deepened the crisis.

Rising Desperation and Civil Unrest

The UN expressed concern that as food and essential services become even scarcer, social unrest in Gaza is rising, with frequent reports of disputes erupting — some involving firearms.

This unrest is occurring in a lawless environment where the enforcement and judicial systems have largely been dismantled due to Israeli attacks targeting civilian administration.

Israeli military operations have also systematically targeted critical civilian infrastructure needed for survival.

Between 21 and 22 April, coordinated attacks in three governorates destroyed 36 heavy machines used in humanitarian operations, including excavators, water trucks, and sewage treatment vehicles.

The destruction of this equipment will severely disrupt emergency rescue operations, including retrieving victims from rubble, clearing debris for ambulance access, delivering drinking water, managing solid waste, and maintaining sanitation systems. These disruptions significantly raise the risk of disease outbreaks, the statement warned.

Isn’t it just charming how the WFP manages to run out of food in Gaza faster than my mate can finish his pint at the pub? 🍻 Must be a new strategy to encourage *strategic dieting*, eh?😏

Looks like the WFP has taken a page out of the “How to Win Friends and Influence People” manual—by running out of food supplies! 🍽️ You’d think they were trying to set a world record for the longest food scarcity—quite the humanitarian achievement, innit? 🤦‍♂️

Seems like the WFP’s idea of “food for thought” has turned into “thought without food.” Cheers to international aid—always promising, never delivering! 🍽️💔

Isn’t it just charming how the WFP runs out of food in Gaza while holding enough reserves to feed a small army elsewhere? Maybe they should consider a ‘take-a-number’ system for those starving over there, eh? 🤷‍♂️🙄

Oh, brilliant, just what we needed—a food shortage in Gaza during a crisis, because nothing says “humanitarian aid” like letting your last supplies run dry, right? 🍽️🙈

Seems like the WFP decided to play hide and seek with food supplies in Gaza, but forgot to tell anyone where they hid them. 🥴 Who needs a full stomach when you’ve got a lovely view of malnutrition? 🤷‍♂️

  7. Oh, fantastic! Just when you thought a meal was an option, the WFP decides it’s time to play hide and seek with food supplies. Brilliant strategy—let’s see how many people can survive on hope and a sprinkle of optimism! 🍽️🙃

Just when you thought they’d hit rock bottom, the WFP drops the last crumb in Gaza—how very thoughtful of them! 🎭 Honestly, it’s like watching a game of musical chairs, except everyone’s starving and the music’s been off for ages. 🍽️💔

Oh great, just what Gaza needed—an empty pantry to match the empty promises. 🍽️ I suppose when life gives you lemons, you just pray someone finds the sugar to sweeten the deal, right? 😏

Just brilliant, isn’t it? The WFP has managed to turn Gaza into a pop-up restaurant with a menu of “absolutely nothing.” 🍽️ At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if their new slogan ends up being “Come for the hunger, stay for the despair!”

Oh, brilliant move by the WFP, really—who needs food when you can have a nice, empty stomach instead? 🍽️💔 I suppose they think fasting is the new diet craze for Gaza!
