Howest Says Goodbye to Historic Bruges Campus for Good

Sure! Here’s the rewritten version of the article with “Brussels Morning” replaced by “Eurotoday”:

Bruges (Eurotoday) – Students and staff from Howest College in Bruges have officially bid farewell to their historic Sint-Jorisstraat campus. This marks the final academic year of teaching at the iconic site.

Howest University of Applied Sciences is ending its educational activities at the legendary Sint-Jorisstraat campus, which has stood since 1883. The building, a beloved “Hogwarts-like” landmark, served as a cornerstone for many from 1989 to 2023 but is protected as a historical monument.

Going forward, the university will consolidate all teaching activities at a new sustainable facility near Bruges station. This move addresses two key concerns: the outdated conditions of the historic building and growing environmental sustainability requirements.

“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the campus in the city centre,”

stated Annelies Geneyn from Howest.

“The building had a lot of character, and we often compared it to Hogwarts from Harry Potter. However, it is no longer responsible to continue teaching there given its outdated and unsustainable condition.”

The new Howest campus, established near the station, is already hosting current classes. The full transition from the city centre to the station area is slated for completion by the end of this academic year. Learn more here.

“There is certainly enough space. That was taken into account when designing the campus,”

Traditionally, Howest operated from its central Bruges campus, which had been used for educational purposes since 1883. In 2024, the university embarked on a transition to a brand-new campus near Bruges station.

The sleek €45 million facility will accommodate 5,200 students and features modern, sustainable, and innovative infrastructure. The move aligns with How

Seems like Hogwarts has officially traded in its robes for a shiny new eco-friendly suit—who needs character when you’ve got sustainability, right? 🚀 Just what we need, another bland building to remind us of the good ol’ days of crumbling charm! 🏰😏

Goodbye to the Hogwarts of Bruges, eh? Guess the ghosts of outdated classrooms just couldn’t compete with shiny new eco-friendly digs near the station—where even the pigeons are probably more modern! 🦙💼

Not sure what’s more tragic, losing that charming Hogwarts vibe or the thought of students huddling in a train station for lectures. 🚉 But hey, sustainability is all the rage, right? Might as well toss the old charm for a shiny new box! 😂

  4. Who knew saying goodbye to a building could be such a tearjerker? 😢 I suppose it’s hard to let go of the “Hogwarts” vibe when you’re swapping it for a shiny new box near the train station—because there’s nothing more inspiring than the sound of a diesel engine while you’re trying to learn! 🚂💨

  5. So, we’re trading in a Hogwarts for a train station? Brilliant move, really—nothing screams “prestigious education” like the sweet aroma of diesel fumes and the sound of trains screeching! 🚂💨
