European Parliament Members Urge Kallas to Meet with the Djalali Family

Members of the European Parliament, including Belgian representatives Bruno Tobback, Kathleen Van Brempt (Vooruit), and Sophie Wilmès (MR), have united in a letter addressed to Kallas, urging the European Union to leverage its diplomatic influence for the release of Djalali.

“Djalali has been unjustly imprisoned for nine years under dreadful conditions, living each day with the risk of execution,” stated Vautmans in a press release. “His health has severely declined, and his family has endured psychological torment for years.”

“We cannot allow this case to be ignored. Djalali is a citizen of the EU, and it is our responsibility to advocate for him. We must not remain passive while Iran exploits lives as political leverage. Djalali should not be forgotten as a hostage,” emphasized the MEP, who met with Djalali’s wife, Vida Mehrannia, earlier this week.

In their letter, the signatories from the Renew Europe, S&D, and Greens factions also request that Kallas holds a public meeting with Djalali’s family, “to demonstrate that the EU is steadfastly behind its citizens.” They call for increased diplomatic pressure on Tehran and cooperation with American partners.

On Thursday, Mehrannia addressed members of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels, sharing a recent audio message from Djalali, in which he urges European and Swedish officials to take united action. He warned that if he were to die in an Iranian prison, those who remain indifferent would bear some responsibility for his death.

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “we care” like a heartfelt letter to Kallas while Djalali’s in a lovely Iranian holiday prison. If only we could get this level of enthusiasm for the local coffee shortage! ☕️💼

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we care” like a heartfelt letter from the Eurocrats—I’m sure Kallas is just itching to pencil in a chat with the Djalali family between meetings about the best croissant in Brussels! 🥐✉️

Oh, fantastic! Because nothing says “we care” quite like sending a strongly-worded letter and hoping for the best. 🌍💼 I can already hear the diplomatic fireworks—grab the popcorn! 🍿

Oh, absolutely brilliant! Nothing like a good ol’ letter to spice up the diplomatic scene—because, you know, actual action is so last season. 📜✨

  5. Isn’t it charming how our esteemed Parliament members are finally putting pen to paper for a cause that’s been simmering for nearly a decade? One can only hope Kallas has a spare moment in her busy schedule of… well, whatever it is they do in those meetings. 🙄✍️

Isn’t it just delightful how our esteemed EU politicians can organize a letter campaign faster than you can say “brussels sprouts”? Can’t wait to see them huddled around the coffee machine, patting themselves on the back for this “bold” move – because nothing says “we care” like a few words on parchment. 🤷‍♂️✨

Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—a letter from the European Parliament to remind us that we’re all just one diplomatic coffee chat away from saving lives. 🍵 Maybe they’ll even throw in a nice PowerPoint presentation while they’re at it! 😏
