Moscow (Eurotoday) – Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated to the FSB security service that initial contacts with the government of U.S. President Donald Trump gave grounds for hope.
In a televised comment, Putin said that Russia and the United States were willing to establish cooperation, but some Western elites would aim to sabotage the dialogue between them.
“We all see how rapidly the world is changing, the situation in the world. In this regard, I would like to note that the first contacts with the new US administration inspire certain hopes,”
Putin told a meeting.
“There is a mutual dedication to work towards restoring interstate relations and gradually resolving the enormous volume of accumulated systemic and strategic problems in the global architecture.”
What did Trump and Putin discuss about the Ukraine war?
President Donald Trump stated that negotiations to conclude the Ukraine war will begin “immediately” after holding a “lengthy and highly productive” telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It is the first telephone conversation known to have taken place between the presidents since Trump assumed office last month, coming as Trump made it clear to his advisers that he wants to bring the Ukraine dispute to a swift end.
A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had not consulted on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, particularly with President Donald Trump, and neither did Russian and US negotiating teams when they met last week in Saudi Arabia.
In remarks broadcast on state television, Putin also expressed that Russia does not rule out European nations participating in a peace settlement.
Earlier in the day, Trump stated he believed Putin would accept European peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of a potential agreement to end the war and mentioned that he had asked Putin about this possibility. Putin and senior Russian officials had previously suggested they would not tolerate Western forces in Ukraine.

Oh, brilliant! The tête-à-tête of the century, where two masters of diplomacy are set to solve the world’s problems over a cup of vodka and a side of fast food. 🇷🇺🍔 It’s like watching a circus, only with more serious faces and fewer clowns. 🤡

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need: two world leaders playing a game of telephone while the rest of us are stuck in traffic wondering if we’ll ever get peace instead of just more hot air. 😂 Let’s hope their “highly productive” chats come with a side of common sense, eh?
